The Role
We are recruiting for an Infrastructure Engineer (Service Monitoring) to join one of our major defence programmes.
As part of the Engineering team, you will help design, deliver, and continually evolve the operational and monitoring capabilities that support our private cloud multi-tenant hosting services across multiple security classifications. The role focuses on enhancing the tools and platforms used to operate and monitor these environments, ensuring reliable and efficient service delivery.
You will develop and improve operational tooling and monitoring solutions that strengthen service performance, increase visibility, and enhance the overall tenant experience. The role also involves creating improved support and alerting capabilities for both internal and external infrastructure teams, service providers, and tenants, enabling faster response times and more effective service management.
Job Responsibilities
Enhance and provide new services to monitor existing private cloud multi-tenant hosting capabilities at multiple classifications
Provide operational level tooling and monitoring capabilities to enhance and improve service operations and tenant experience as well as provide enhanced support and alerting to internal and external infrastructure teams, service providers and tenants.
System and network log collection and analysis - design, deploy, troubleshoot and manage to a 3rd line level
Deployment and management of Splunk with an application monitoring and alerting use case, also within a tenant specific application & security monitoring context.
Experience in reviewing existing monitoring services, providing guidance on enhancing current services
Skills Required
Industry Knowledge (Desirable)
Experience delivering digital projects within the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) or central UK Government environments.
Exposure to highly secure, operational, or air-gapped mission-critical environments.
Technical Expertise
Proven operational experience supporting VMware Cloud Foundation in a production environment, including: VMware Aria Operations and VMware Aria Operations for Logs
Experience working with Splunk, ideally including configuring or managing log forwarding to a central service provider.
Knowledge of Splunk Query Language (SPL).
Experience using regular expressions (Regex) for log parsing and analysis.
Scripting and automation experience using Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
Practical understanding of APIs and experience integrating or working with them.
Strong technical curiosity and the ability to quickly learn and adopt new technologies.
Experience with security tooling such as Nessus and Tenable Security Center.
Security Clearance Requirements
The successful candidate must be eligible to go through a SC level security clearance, DV preferred.
Location
The role will be required to be onsite in Corsham 1 day a week, in additional to occasional travel to Portsmouth.
