Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) is a unique Indigenous Institute, recognized by community, government, and institutions of higher learning, as a Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Knowledge. SNP offers postsecondary, secondary, trades education and training. SNP has formal partnerships with nine publicly funded Ontario Universities and Colleges and collaborates with six Ontario-based Indigenous owned and controlled post-secondary Institutes.

JOB PURPOSE
 

The purpose of this role is to support the day-to-day operations of the Deyohahá:ge: Indigenous Knowledge Centre by assisting with archival organization, digitization, research, and program delivery. The position exists to help preserve and improve access to Indigenous Knowledge resources while supporting educational and community-based programming. Key results include accurate records, respectful handling of materials, and effective support for Centre activities and services.

Indigenous Knowledge Centre Summer Student (Archives & Programs) is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of

Ga’nigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
 

Archival and Cultural Collections Support 25 %

 

Assist with basic evaluation, organization, and preservation of archival and cultural materials under staff supervision, following archival standards and Indigenous Knowledge Centre protocols.

Other related duties as assigned or required. 

 

Digital Records and Database Support 25%

 

Support the maintenance of archival storage systems and the collections management database (PastPerfect), including copying, scanning, digitizing, and accurately recording collection materials.

Other related duties as assigned or required. 

 

Research and Resource Development 25%

 

Provide research and administrative assistance to support the development, organization, and enhancement of Indigenous Knowledge Centre resources and materials.

Other related duties as assigned or required. 

 

Programs, Events, and Centre Operations 20%

 

Assist in the planning and delivery of programs, events, and services for Six Nations Polytechnic and the Deyohahá:ge: Indigenous Knowledge Centre, and support the Centre’s daily operations, including intake of new materials and community-facing

Other related duties as assigned or required. 

 

General Administration 5%

Copying, scanning, digitizing, and accurately recording collection materials

Other related duties as assigned or required. 

 

EDUCATIONAL KNOWLEDGE
 

Must be registered as a full-time secondary or post-secondary student during the preceding academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.

 

EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / CULTURE AND LANGUAGE EXPERTISE

Up to and including 1 year of experience

Criminal Record Check 

 

The successful candidate will be required to provide an original Criminal Background Check – Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) prior to the first day of work at Six Nations Polytechnic, and an Offence Declaration that is satisfactory to SNP by their first day of employment at Six Nations Polytechnic.

POSITION TYPE: New

JOB TYPE: Contract; 16-Weeks

SCHEDULE: 37.5 hrs Monday-Friday 

WORK MODEL: Onsite  

PAY BAND: 2; Core range $40,540.79–$47,500.00. The target hiring salary for this position is minimum (Step 1) up to 45% of the pay band. Considerations for new hire step placements include experiential knowledge and/or language and cultural expertise.
