In-House Mechanic / Equipment Maintenance Technician
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced, mechanically inclined In-House Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of trucks, trailers, small engines, and heavy equipment. This role is responsible for keeping equipment reliable, safe, and cost-effective through hands-on repairs, preventative maintenance planning, and informed replacement recommendations.
This is a full-time, in-house position. We provide a fully equipped shop and all required tools.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance
Diagnose, repair, and maintain small engines, including 2-stroke and 4-stroke equipment
Perform routine and corrective maintenance on gas-powered trucks
Maintain and repair trailers, including brakes, lights, axles, and structural components
Service diesel-powered heavy equipment, including skid steers and a mini excavator
Perform oil changes, fluid services, filters, belts, hoses, batteries, and general mechanical repairs
Welding & Fabrication
Perform basic welding and fabrication, primarily for trailer repairs and light equipment modifications
Identify structural or safety issues and implement practical repair solutions
Preventative Maintenance & Fleet Management
Build, maintain, and continuously improve a preventative maintenance schedule for all vehicles and equipment
Track inspections, services, and repairs using existing company software systems
Build and maintain an appropriate inventory of replacement parts to minimize downtime
Monitor parts usage and recommend reorder levels
Equipment Lifecycle & Recommendations
Evaluate repair costs, downtime, and overall equipment condition
Provide clear recommendations on when continued repair is no longer cost-effective and replacement is warranted
Communicate equipment health, risks, and replacement timing to management
Shop & Fleet Standards
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
Communicate equipment status clearly with operations and field leadership
Recommend additional tools or equipment as needed (company supplies all tools)
Qualifications
Required
Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience
In-depth knowledge of small engines (2-stroke and 4-stroke)
Experience maintaining gasoline-powered vehicles
Working knowledge of diesel engines and hydraulic systems
Experience with trailers and basic welding/fabrication
Ability to work independently and troubleshoot without constant supervision
Valid driver’s license required
Ability to pass E-Verify employment eligibility verification
Preferred (Strong Plus)
Bilingual (English / Spanish)
Experience with skid steers and compact construction equipment
Familiarity with preventative maintenance or fleet management software
Prior experience in construction, landscaping, or fleet-based operations
Tools & Equipment
All tools are provided by the company
Any additional tools or equipment required will be supplied
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly pay range: $30–$40 per hour, based on experience
2 weeks of paid time off (PTO)
