Thungela Resources [Thungela means “to ignite” in isiZulu] is a leading South African thermal coal business, focused exclusively on thermal coal production. It is one of the largest pure-play producers and exporters of thermal coal in South Africa based on aggregate coal reserves and marketable coal production. Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets.
Deliver on the IM strategy for core and technical infrastructure to consolidate, simplify, optimise and manage the specialist MSSP ensuring a strong security posture is achieved and maintained.
The focus areas for this role will be to manage and co-ordinate the following:
Performance & Delivery
• Deliver effective BAU operations for Infrastructure and Security, and drive optimisation efforts in line with business priorities.
• Own the strategies for all IM infrastructure (inclusive of LAN, WAN, Server/storage, and Cloud)
• Lead the establishment and management of company-wide Infrastructure and Security function in line with the agreed strategies and security posture, with the aim to continuously consolidate, simplify and optimise
• Provide internal and external stakeholder management and ensure robust Infrastructure and Security frameworks and delivery of services across the business by collaborating with various specialist providers
• Lead the service provider contracting parameters and quality of performance delivery, with relevant monitoring and reviews to ensure that the conditions and scope align with the changing company context and requirements
• Provide business integration across Infrastructure and Security technical solutions and act as the interface between business and various specialists to support the frontline services teams with seamless services to the business
• Collaborate with the frontline services teams and manage Infrastructure and Security issue resolution with required escalations of queries from the operations to service providers
• Ensure adherence to the appropriate governance functions relating to IM
• Infrastructure and in accordance with enterprise guidelines, policies and practices.
▪ Maintain a governance role to monitor the operational productivity of infrastructure.
▪ Provide leadership for optimisation and guide the business on Infrastructure.
• Deliver the protective capabilities related to the management of cybersecurity
• Own the security strategy and posture for Thungela
• Ensure adherence to the appropriate governance functions relating to the Infrastructure & Security function and in accordance with enterprise guidelines, policies and practices
▪ Support the management of the cybersecurity, backup and recovery governance and implementation process
▪ Maintain a governance role to monitor the effectiveness of the security environment and associated controls
▪ Provide leadership for optimisation and guide business on cybersecurity best practices, trends and impacts
• Responsible for the design of end-to-end information security architecture for technology and business solutions as part of projects
• Researches, designs and advocates new technologies, architectures and security products that will support security requirements for the enterprise and its customers, business partners and vendors
• Oversee integrated Release management of the application in conjunction with the PPM and Enterprise Applications teams
• Conduct Risk Management for the infrastructure and security components to support the IM function in managing any emerging IM risks.
• Support the management of overall IM risks and proactively manage risks related to infrastructure and security and advise on best risk mitigation strategies.
People & Teams
• Manage relationships with all key stakeholders (internal and external) to understand and deliver on their service needs and resolve issues optimally.
• Contribute to the broader business by working with other leaders and teams in such a way that it optimises the overall business results.
• Demonstrate behaviour in line with Thungela values, standards and ensure maintenance of a professional workplace across all sites.
• Participate as an effective team member in working collaboratively with leaders, peers, and relevant others (including from other teams) to achieve business goals.
• Provide leadership to, and develop the performance of the IM Infrastructure & Security team in line with Thungela’s policies and systems (e.g., performance management, talent management)
Commercial
• Plan, manage and control the budget for the relevant area of responsibilities.
• Identify any opportunities for improved cost and commercial management and propose applicable action plans.
• Identifies and undertakes agreed projects that improve cost / commercial effectiveness and performance, particularly where the benefit is delivered across multiple operations or is large
• Supports the development of Group sponsored and Business Unit sourced technical innovation ensuring intellectual property rights are reserved.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Management or related field (NQF Level 7)
• Advantageous: Post graduate qualification in Information Management or related discipline (NQF Level 8/9)
• Advantageous: Cybersecurity management Certification
Knowledge and Experience
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in Information Management or related disciplines
• Extensive experience in IM infrastructure management and the management of cybersecurity
• Good experience in managing multiple outsourced/external service providers.
• Good experience related to the management of IM security infrastructure
Operations
• Proficient knowledge of mining and other relevant legislation applicable to Thungela Resources incl.:
• Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, No 25 of 20023
• Promotion of Access to Information Act, No 2 of 2000
• Protection of Personal Information Act, No 4 of 2013
• Advanced understanding of IM infrastructure lifecycle management
• Advanced understanding of cybersecurity standards and practices.
Commercial:
•  Proficient knowledge of financial management and resource management within the IM environment
Management:
• Advanced knowledge of IM risk management and IM security processes
Compliance:
• Advanced understanding of ISO 27000 and proficient understanding of COBIT 5 and ITIL.
•  Advanced knowledge of Thungela Resources policies, procedures, standards and systems as it relates to IM
