Job Summary:
This position is classified as an Independent Contractor. IBM Instructor- Canadian Agriculture SME is not an employee of the institution and will operate independently while meeting agreed-upon performance standards and educational policies aligned with PTIRU. The contractor is responsible for their own taxes, benefits, equipment, and work arrangements, and will not be entitled to employee benefits. The role collaborates closely with the Admissions and Academic teams but does not hold decision-making authority within the organization.

Position Summary
An Independent Contractor with deep knowledge and practical experience in the Canadian agriculture sector to support agriculture-focused initiatives, programs, and engagements. This role provides domain expertise, industry insight, and contextual guidance to ensure IBM solutions, content, and engagements align with the realities of Canadian agricultural systems, policies, and practices.
Key Responsibilities
Agricultural Expertise & Advisory Support
Provide subject matter expertise on Canadian agriculture, including crop and livestock production systems, agri-food value chains, seasonal operations, and regional farming practices.
Advise IBM teams on agricultural workflows, terminology, challenges, and opportunities specific to the Canadian context.
Support the interpretation of agricultural requirements, operational needs, and stakeholder expectations across Canada’s diverse agricultural regions.
Content & Knowledge Contribution
Contribute to the development and review of agriculture-related content, documentation, and materials to ensure accuracy, relevance, and industry alignment.
Assist in adapting global or generic agriculture content for applicability within Canadian markets and regulatory environments.
Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions, briefings, or workshops with IBM stakeholders as required.
Engagement & Stakeholder Collaboration
Collaborate with IBM teams, partners, and external stakeholders to support agriculture-focused initiatives and engagements.
Provide input during planning sessions, meetings, or consultations to ensure agricultural considerations are accurately represented.
Facilitate informed discussions by sharing practical insights, examples, and best practices from Canadian agriculture.
Program and Administrative Support
Support planning, scheduling, and documentation related to agriculture-focused projects or programs.
Maintain timely communication and deliver agreed-upon outputs in accordance with engagement requirements.
Perform additional duties related to the engagement that align with agricultural expertise and program objectives.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Demonstrated professional experience in the Canadian agriculture sector, such as farming operations, agribusiness, agricultural extension, policy, education, or industry associations.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in the related field.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in the related field.
Strong understanding of Canadian agricultural systems, regional differences, and seasonal considerations.
Familiarity with Canadian agricultural policies, regulations, and sustainability or environmental frameworks.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey agricultural concepts to non-agricultural audiences.
Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and preferences.
