Commensurate with placement on the SMS Salary Grid, based on years of teaching experience & education (TQS Category).
This is a bargaining unit position in the Professional Employees Association.
All candidates must hold a valid B.C. TRB Teacher’s Certificate and be legally able to work in Canada.
Summary
St. Margaret’s School (SMS) is Western Canada’s only girl-centered, independent day and boarding school located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on the unceded traditional territories of the Esquimalt Nations, Songhees Nations, and W̱SÁNEĆ Nations. Founded in 1908, SMS is an international centre for girl-centered learning and leadership development, providing empowering education for girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (boarding grades 7–12). St. Margaret’s School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School offering the Diploma Program.
The IB Leadership, CAS & Service-Learning Teacher plays a key role in supporting students’ holistic development through the International Baccalaureate’s core elements — Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) and Service as Action (SaA) — as well as through the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award and homeroom mentorship. This position requires a passionate educator who models global citizenship, leadership, and reflective practice while inspiring students to make meaningful contributions to their communities.

Duties and Responsibilities
IB CAS & Service as Action Coordination
Design, implement, and oversee the CAS (IBDP) and Service as Action (MYP) programmes in alignment with IB standards and practices.
Guide students in developing, executing, and reflecting on individual and group projects that promote creativity, activity, and service.
Collaborate with teachers, parents, and community partners to identify and facilitate authentic service-learning opportunities.
Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, reflections, and evidence of learning,
Lead CAS/SaA assemblies, exhibitions, and showcase events that celebrate student achievements.
Leadership Development
Embed leadership principles within the CAS and Service as Action framework.
Mentor students in leadership roles (e.g., Student Council, House Captains, Service Leaders).
Facilitate workshops and activities focused on communication, teamwork, initiative, and ethical decision-making.
Support students in setting personal goals aligned with the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.
Teaching and Professional Contribution
Teach IB subjects as assigned, adhering to IB philosophy, pedagogy, and assessment principles.
Contribute to curriculum planning and interdisciplinary projects.
Engage in ongoing professional learning and IB training.
Participate actively in school events, trips, and community-building initiatives.
Homeroom and Pastoral Care
Serve as a homeroom teacher and primary point of contact for a group of students.
Monitor and support students’ academic progress, wellbeing, and personal development.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and reflective homeroom environment.
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians, maintaining strong relationships built on trust and care.
Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (Extra Curricular Stipend)
Coordinate and manage the school’s Duke of Edinburgh programme, ensuring compliance with the award’s standards.
Support students in planning and achieving their Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels.
Organize expeditions and liaise with external providers for training, safety, and assessment.
Promote student engagement in community service, physical recreation, and skill development.
Required Education & Experience
Current and Valid teacher certification through the Teacher Regulation Branch.
Bachelor of Education degree.
Minimum 3 years of experience teaching in an IB World School (MYP/DP).
Proven experience coordinating or facilitating CAS, Service Learning, or Duke of Edinburgh programmes.
