SUMMARY
The Hydromania Counselor position is responsible for teaching classes during Umatilla Electric Cooperative's Hydromania Summer Science Camps and oversees related demonstrations, presentations, events and field trips. The Counselor shows genuine interest in campers, participates enthusiastically, and sets a good example for camp participants. Applicants must complete and pass a criminal and background check to ensure the safety and security of the minor children.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include other duties as assigned.
Assists with the planning, organizing, and scheduling of camp activities.
Teaches or assists with demonstrations, presentations, events, and field trips.
Takes responsibility for the health, well-being, and happiness of campers.
Keeps track of camp supplies and conveys to the UEC Camp Liaison any camp needs.
Follows camp objectives, rules, policies, and guidelines.
JOB DUTIES may include other duties as assigned.
If requested, supervises daily set-up and clean-up of the camp area.
If requested, interact with parents/guardians during drop-off and pick-up times.
Identifies and responds to camper behavior issues.
Sets a good example for campers in all areas, including cleanliness, punctuality, clean-up chores, rules, and sportsmanship.
Works collaboratively with colleagues and fosters a spirit of cooperation in the workplace.
Conducts themselves in a manner that reflects well on UEC and contributes to harmonious relations with members and the general public.
Respectfully takes direction from supervisor and/or manager.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. College level courses completed or in progress pursuing a degree related to elementary or higher-level teaching preferred.
Experience: One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATH SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Has advanced basic computer job skills including logging on to systems, ability to communicate by email, ability to compose documents, enter database information, create presentations, download forms, and preserve/backup important data.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES and LICENSES
A valid Driver’s License is required. First Aid and CPR certification must be completed upon hire or current certification to be demonstrated.

Physical Skills:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk.; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities. The counselor moves to various locations frequently throughout the day, engaging in indoor and outdoor play and learning activities such as setting up and taking down science demonstrations. Activities involve standing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, walking, running and climbing. The employee chaperones campers on field trips, getting on and off buses, walking long distances on uneven surfaces, from dirt to concrete, including riverbanks and in-river activities.
Physical Effort:
Level 2 (Moderate).
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
