Position Overview:
The HR Generalist supports the full employee lifecycle by providing hands-on human resources administration, employee support, and compliance across a multi-state organization. This role serves as a key operational resource within HR, supporting onboarding and offboarding processes, maintaining the accuracy and integrity of HRIS and personnel records, assisting with leave administration and HR communications, and helping ensure consistent, compliant HR practices while supporting company-wide HR initiatives.
Essential Job Functions:
Serve as a first point of contact for general HR inquiries and assist with drafting, preparing, and distributing HR communications, policies, employee memos, and internal updates.
Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in HRIS systems (BambooHR preferred) and personnel files, including employee status changes, job updates, personal information, leave records, and record retention in compliance with federal and multi-state employment regulations.
Manage the onboarding and offboarding processes, including organizing required documentation, facilitating weekly new hire orientation, coordinating materials, tracking attendance.
Prepare and issue offer letters in alignment with approved compensation structures and company guidelines.
Process employment verification requests and background checks and monitor results to ensure compliance with company standards.
Assist employees with leave of absence processes (FMLA, ADA accommodations, Workers’ Compensation, Paid Family Leave, Disability), ensuring accurate and timely documentation and tracking within HR systems.
Support the development, documentation, and ongoing maintenance of HR Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to improve consistency and operational efficiency.
Provide backup support across HR functions to ensure continuity of service during peak periods, absences, or special projects.
Assist with employee recognition programs, including years-of-service awards, seniority tracking, anniversary communications, and related mailings.
Support planning and execution of company events, including preparation of materials, coordination of mailings, and logistical support.
Coordinate corporate sponsorships and charitable donations, including review of requests and provision of company branding assets (e.g., logos) as needed
Participate in professional development sessions, webinars, and training programs to stay current on HR best practices, employment law updates, and regulatory changes.
Requirements/Skills:
Associate’s degree is preferred with a minimum of three (3) years of human resources experience, preferably in construction, manufacturing, or other field-based industries. Five (5) or more years of relevant HR experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree. Experience working in a multi-state environment; construction industry and prevailing wage experience a plus.
Understanding of HR best practices, employment laws, and compliance requirements.
Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret HR data.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR compliance requirements is preferred.
Experience with HRIS platforms (BambooHR preferred) and payroll systems. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with the ability to analyze data and prepare reports.
Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with sound judgment and discretion.
