About the Veterans Transition Center of California:
The Veterans Transition Center of California (VTC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering formerly homeless and formerly incarcerated Veterans move from crisis to self-sufficiency. Through supportive housing, case management, and a variety of wraparound services, VTC helps Veterans regain self-sufficiency and dignity.
Position Summary:
The Human Resources Generalist plays a critical role in supporting VTC’s mission by managing day-to-day HR functions across the organization. This position ensures compliance with employment laws and internal policies, supports staff recruitment and retention, and fosters a positive workplace culture in alignment with the organization's values.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the full cycle hiring process, including job postings, screenings, interviews, and onboarding.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR files within the HRIS system.
Administer employee benefits programs and support open enrollment and benefits education.
Assist in developing and implementing HR policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
Support performance management processes including evaluations, progressive discipline, and staff development/training opportunities.
Respond to employee inquiries and assist with conflict resolution or workplace concerns.
Maintain timekeeping systems and assist with payroll processing.
Coordinate training and development opportunities for staff that adhere to contract and grant requirements.
Provide HR support during audits and grant reporting processes as needed.
Other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of VTC.
Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
2+ years of HR experience, preferably in a nonprofit or social services setting required.
SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or HRCI Certification preferred.
Knowledge of California labor laws and HR best practices.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills with high initiative.
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

Pay Range: $30.00 - $35.00 (DOE)
