Position Overview

The HSE Compliance Technician is responsible for supporting a safe, compliant, and well‑controlled work environment across the shop and yard. This role ensures adherence to OSHA standards, Spur Industrial safety policies, and best practices for hazard prevention. The technician conducts inspections, maintains documentation, trains employees, and reinforces a culture where safety is a daily expectation—not an afterthought.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management & Compliance

Develop, implement, and maintain the shop’s safety program.

Ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and local regulations.

Maintain OSHA certifications, logs, and required records.

Oversee the PPE program, including issuance, training, and compliance.

Maintain documentation, incident logs, and corrective action records.

Coordinate emergency response planning and drills.

Support incident and near‑miss investigations, including root‑cause analysis and follow‑up actions.

Promote and model a safety‑first culture across all teams.

Training & Employee Support

Conduct safety orientation for new hires.

Deliver training on safety procedures, hazard recognition, and equipment use.

Conduct forklift training for new hires and periodic refresher training for experienced operators.

Lead weekly toolbox talks and safety discussions.

Inventory & Equipment Oversight

Maintain stock of safety glasses, gloves, first‑aid supplies, and other PPE.

Inspect welding machines, tools, lifting equipment, and safety systems.

Ensure ventilation systems and hot‑work controls are functioning properly.

Review chemical inventory and maintain SDS compliance.

Daily Duties

Walk the shop floor and yard to identify hazards and unsafe conditions.

Verify proper PPE use and correct deficiencies immediately.

Inspect welding machines, tools, and cords for damage or improper use.

Confirm ventilation systems and fume extraction are operating correctly.

Ensure hot‑work areas are clear, controlled, and compliant.

Inspect gas cylinders for proper storage, labeling, and condition.

Monitor housekeeping and enforce 5S‑style cleanliness expectations.

Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for accuracy and relevance.

Document observations, deficiencies, and corrective actions.

Weekly Duties

Conduct formal shop safety inspections and document findings.

Test emergency equipment (eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, alarms).

Restock and inspect first‑aid kits.

Inspect welding curtains, barriers, and machine grounding.

Inspect lifting equipment (slings, chains, hoists) for wear and compliance.

Review chemical inventory and ensure SDS documentation is current.

Lead weekly toolbox talks and safety refreshers.

Qualifications

OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred.

Experience in industrial, fabrication, or construction safety.

Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and hazard‑control methods.

Ability to train, coach, and communicate clearly with all levels of the organization.

Strong documentation, observation, and follow‑up skills.

Forklift trainer certification (or ability to obtain).

Ability to walk, climb, inspect, and work in shop/yard environments daily.
