ROLE OVERVIEW:

As an HR Generalist supporting our U.S. business, you’ll be embedded in the day-to-day while also helping shape how we hire, develop, and support our people. From navigating employee relations issues to improving processes and supporting leaders, your work will have a direct impact on both our culture and business outcomes.

We’re looking for someone who is proactive, thoughtful, and confident in their judgment. Someone who can balance empathy with business needs, and who builds trust quickly across all levels of the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Point-of-contact for any HR-related questions regarding benefits, policies, payroll, programs, etc.

• Foster a positive, respectful, and safety-focused workplace culture

• Assist in driving employee engagement initiatives and monitoring workplace morale

• Manage the pre-hire process and ensure constant communication with new hires through onboarding

• Coordinate onboarding tasks such as HR documentation, system setup, and candidate communications to ensure new hires are prepared for a successful first day

• Provide expert support across the full employee lifecycle including onboarding, performance management, and offboarding

• Supporting compliance of applicable federal, state, and local labor and employee relations laws and regulations as it pertains to employment action and policy creation

• Lead, maintain, and continuously improve the end-to-end onboarding strategy for new hires, including program oversight, stakeholder coordination, and monitoring of onboarding metrics and outcomes

• Support new hire orientation by delivering HR presentations and providing guidance on company policies, benefits, and HR programs

• Assist with benefits administration and 401(k) plans, including enrollments, changes, terminations, and annual open enrollment

• Ensure consistent implementation of HR policies, procedures, and compliance with employment laws and company standards

• Handle sensitive subject matter with utmost integrity, discretion, and confidentiality

• Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data for the region

• Support audits and compliance checks

• Perform other related duties as assigned

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Education

• PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred

• Associate or bachelor's degree preferred, experience in lieu of degree will be considered

Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in an HR role

• Industry experience in mining, construction, energy, or heavy industry a plus

• Knowledge of employment and labor laws

• Strong working knowledge of HRIS platforms

• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

• Experience dealing with employee relations

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust across multiple levels of the business

• A self-starter with a high level of attention to detail and strong analytical, problem solving, organization and multi-tasking skills

• Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion

• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with cross-functional teams

• Valid US Driver’s License

• Authorization to work lawfully in the USA without sponsorship from Thiess

• Must be fluent in the English language

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Work is primarily performed in an office environment, with prolonged periods of sitting, typing, and viewing a computer screen

• May occasionally require standing, walking, or lifting objects weighing up to 25 lbs such as files, laptop equipment, or office supplies

• Must have adequate vision, hearing, and hand–eye coordination to perform computer and phone-based work effectively

• Occasional travel to project sites, meetings, or training may be required, which can involve driving or extended periods of sitting

• When visiting operational sites, the employee must comply with all site safety requirements and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed

• Must be physically capable of safely performing the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
