The Town of Essex is seeking to fill a vacancy for a Highway Maintenance Class III Operator in the Highway Division of Public Works. This is a full time position with Town benefits. This position works under the direct supervision of the Highway Superintendent with day–to-day oversight from the Highway Foreman. This role performs general maintenance and repair work on Town roadways and public works facilities (including water, sewer and storm water mains), and utilizes heavy equipment such as a road grader, a backhoe, and a street sweeper. In the winter the primary function of this role is plowing Town roads. In general, the regular work hours per week for this role are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, hours will vary depending upon needs of the municipality and the weather. Overtime will be required during the winter season.

The qualified candidate should have an active Class B CDL(or higher), previous heavy equipment operation experience, and 5 years' experience in highway maintenance with at least 3 seasons worth of winter plowing experience. The Town of Essex will pay for all needed trainings and licensures relating to this requirement.
The pay range for this role is $26.92 to $30.00 per hour, with the actual starting salary being dependent on the candidates skills and prior experience. The Town offers other financial benefits such as double time pay for hours worked on Sundays and Town holidays(with 14 observed Town Holidays), 4 hour minimum call out pay, longevity bonuses, pay for proficiency and more!
