Title: Electrical Design Engineer – High Voltage Systems
Location: GE Transportation (A Wabtec Company), Erie, PA
Job Description:
We have a dynamic opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to initiate and manage component testing thru our validation lab. This position will also lead integration of new software and hardware designs thru concept to production. The Engineer will interface with GE Transportation and local suppliers to execute assigned projects for new locomotive electrical system designs. Additional experience with power systems and/or locomotive electrical system design a bonus.
Responsibilities:
- The engineer will be responsible for design and testing of power circuits and electrical hardware as related to locomotives (primary power and control systems).
- Provide technical support for direct current power electronics and magnetics design for three phase high-frequency switching power supplies for locomotive propulsion.
- Full Design Authority and Life Cycle Management, tasks include system level requirements analysis, sub-system level requirements development, conceptual design, preliminary design and detailed design up to and thru design verification and transition into production.
- Drive cross-functional teams to execute on critical project milestones, including but not limited to; design reviews, material orders, prototype builds, field and bench testing, etc.
- Use creativity to find solutions for design modifications and troubleshooting locomotive component maintenance issues.
Desired Skills:
- Experience in multiple KW Transformers, Large Scale Capacitors, Bus Bars, Contactors, Relays, Circuit Breakers, switching theory and practical applications.
- Strong engineering background and proven experience with leading various technical projects and familiarity testing components in a laboratory environment.
- An understanding of control logic function and its interaction between major electrical components.
- Past design experience with primary electrical systems and power magnetic components.
- Ability to create engineering experiments and execute testing to create workable solutions for electrical powered components.
- Proficiency with a 3D modeling suite and knowledge of finite element software.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Systems Engineering with 1 to 3 years of related experience.
