About the Summer Experience Program
The HMSE Program is a unique opportunity for high school students and recent graduates to immerse themselves in the trades of sheet metal, piping, plumbing, and HVAC service. Through hands-on projects, workshops, and mentorship from skilled craft professionals, participants gain invaluable insight into these dynamic fields. DILFO is teaming up with The Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa to bring the Heavy Metal Summer Experience to life.
The program will run Monday to Thursday from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm and will cover areas including Sheet Metal, Plumbing and Piping, HVAC Service, Health and Safety, Project Management, VDC, local union involvement, and an on-site experience. From honing practical skills to building connections with industry experts, the program offers a comprehensive introduction to the world of trades.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with craft professionals on hands-on projects related to sheet metal, piping, plumbing, and service
Attend and participate in all workshops and training sessions to develop essential skills and techniques
Engage with fellow student volunteers and industry professionals to expand your network and exchange ideas
Help promote the Summer Experience Program within your school and community to inspire others to join
Follow all Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, including the proper use and application of Personal Protective Equipment and following the appropriate dress code.
Qualifications:
High school student or recent graduate, aged 16-20, with a passion for learning and exploring new opportunities
Interest in trades such as sheet metal work, piping, plumbing, and service
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Willingness to learn and take on new challenges
Availability to attend all days of the program
Commitment to safety and following instructions during hands-on activities
