Summary:
The Field Engineer supports Project Managers and Superintendents in the technical coordination, documentation, and quality oversight of civil construction projects. This role is responsible for ensuring work in the field is executed in accordance with plans, specifications, and safety standards. The Field Engineer serves as a critical link between office administration and active job sites, managing documentation, conducting inspections, tracking progress, and coordinating materials and equipment. The ideal candidate brings hands-on construction experience, strong attention to detail, and the organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the planning, scheduling, and technical execution of multiple phases of assigned civil construction projects
Conduct field inspections to verify that construction activities conform to approved plans, project specifications, and quality standards
Maintain and manage accurate project documentation including daily field reports, inspection logs, material records, and status updates
Coordinate material deliveries and equipment needs to ensure uninterrupted site operations
Track and report on the progress of large, complex projects and multiple concurrent smaller-scale projects
Assist in hazard assessments, enforce PPE requirements, and ensure all site safety practices and regulations are consistently followed
Submit accurate daily records of completed work and materials used to the Project Manager or Superintendent
Read, interpret, and apply construction plans, scopes of work, material specifications, and regulatory guidelines
Support the coordination and daily execution of site activities, including interfacing with field crews, subcontractors, and suppliers
Assist plant manager and site teams with material loading, staging, and logistics as needed
Identify field issues, document site conditions, and communicate findings to project leadership in a timely manner
Work both independently on site and collaboratively with project teams, clients, inspectors, and stakeholders
Additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or certifications in construction management, civil engineering technology, or related field preferred
Minimum 2–3 years of experience in civil construction, field operations, or a related engineering support role
Valid driver's license and ability to travel between active project sites throughout the DMV region
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation, reporting, and scheduling
Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting to supervisors and coordinating across field and office teams
Strong working knowledge of site safety compliance, OSHA standards, and PPE requirements
Experience managing construction documentation including field reports, inspection logs, and progress tracking
Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and
Must be able to pass drug screen and background.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both active field construction environments and an office setting
Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and high-noise environments
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed throughout the workday
Extended hours, evenings, or weekend work may be required based on project schedules and deadlines
Appropriate PPE must be always worn when on active job sites
