Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic (Full-Time, 100% Travel)
Reports to: Fleet Director
Pay Range: $28 - $38/hr DOE
Spriggs Excavation is recruiting for a full-time, 100% travel position. This role requires continuous travel to project sites across multiple states based on business needs and project schedules. Employees in this position should expect to be assigned to one location for an extended period—such as several months at a time—before transitioning to another project in a different state. For example, an assignment may begin in Texas, then move to Colorado, and later transition to New Mexico. Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to work wherever projects are located are essential requirements of this role.

Job Summary:
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Field Mechanic who brings with them a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and desire to contribute to the overall success of a great team. The Field Mechanic is responsible for
diagnosis, repair and preventative maintenance of a large fleet of earthmoving equipment. This includes troubleshooting and repairing electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic defects on equipment such as excavators, loaders, trenchers, forklifts, and more.
Pay is DOE with per diem. Expect 40–60 hours per week and up to 100% travel.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Follow all safety rules and regulations when performing work assignments.
Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on all fleet equipment.
Make mechanical repairs to equipment after completion of inspection and analysis of breakdown.
Record complete repair description on work order, including the correct model and the serial number of equipment and record hour meter reading.
Lubricate moving parts and operates repaired equipment to verify conformance to specifications.
Maintain the professional image of self and service truck by focusing on cleanliness and presentation.
Maintain an acceptable driving record and follow all rules and regulations related to having a CDL
Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 21 years of age, as required by the Spriggs company insurance policy
Technical School Certificate and 2 years of related work experience or 5 years of related work experience.
Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Demonstrated history of safe, reliable work habits
Demonstrated ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair heavy earthmoving equipment
Working knowledge of equipment operations and mechanical functions
Strong communication
skills
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Ability to travel extensively, including overnight
Proficiency in spoken and written English is a mandatory requirement for this role, as it is essential for understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and participating in team communications.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work for long periods of time performing tasks that may require repetitive lifting, standing, kneeling, sitting, grasping, twisting, and climbing stairs/ladders.
Ability to work evenings and weekends when required
Ability to lift of up to 60 pounds
