At MacKay Contracting Ltd., our equipment is the backbone of everything we do — and our Heavy Duty Mechanics are the reason it performs day in and day out. This role is critical to keeping our fleet safe, reliable, and productive, helping us minimize downtime, exceed client expectations, and get the job done right the first time.
Working as part of our Maintenance Team, you’ll support a wide range of heavy civil and mining projects by ensuring our equipment is ready to work when and where it’s needed.
What You’ll Be Doing
Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair heavy construction equipment including haul trucks, dozers, excavators, graders, and support equipment
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues using computerized diagnostic tools
Repair or replace components and systems using hand and power tools
Test repaired equipment to ensure it meets manufacturer specifications and MacKay standards
Perform routine servicing, cleaning, lubrication, and preventative maintenance
Service attachments and working tools such as blades, ploughs, winches, and side booms
Work closely with the Parts Technician to identify and source required maintenance items
Complete daily maintenance reports through SiteDocs
Submit daily timecards accurately and on time
Maintain a strong focus on safety while working in shop and field environments
What You Bring
Interprovincial Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) Certification
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently while still being a solid team player
Clear communication skills and attention to detail
Experience working on Caterpillar general line equipment is an asset
Engine, component rebuilding, transmission, or hydraulic testing experience is considered an asset
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions while working safely
A positive attitude, strong initiative, and pride in your work
Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a clean Driver’s Abstract

This role is based out of Sparwood, B.C., working a 7 x 7 shift rotation. Shifts typically run 12 hours, with overtime after 8 hours.
