Estimator – Heavy Civil / Structures
Kansas City, MO (Onsite – Relocation Supported)
Heavy Civil Construction
Compensation: $90,000–$170,000+ DOE + Bonus + Allowances
Position Overview
The Estimator will support bidding efforts for heavy civil projects, with a strong focus on structures, bridges, and highway work. This role works closely with project managers, schedulers, and engineers to develop accurate, competitive bids for public infrastructure projects.
This is an onsite role with minimal travel. Relocation assistance is available and structured based on experience level.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil and structural projects
Perform quantity takeoffs and pricing using industry-standard estimating software
Analyze plans, specifications, and bid documents
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and schedulers throughout the bid process
Work with DOT requirements (state and municipal projects)
Evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing
Participate in bid strategy meetings and scope reviews
Support multiple bids simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines
Utilize multiple screens and tools to analyze drawings, quantities, and costs
Assist with post-bid reviews and handoff to project teams
Projects You’ll Work On
Highway expansions and roadway improvements
Bridge and structural concrete work
DOT-funded infrastructure projects
Large-scale public works projects ranging from small builds to multi-hundred-million-dollar scopes
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction
Experience with structures, bridges, highways, or heavy civil projects
Proficiency with estimating software such as:
HeavyBid
Bluebeam
Bid2Win
AutoCAD
Excel
Strong understanding of construction documents and bid requirements
Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment
Hands-on estimating experience (not PMs transitioning into estimating)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working on DOT projects (MODOT, KDOT, or similar)
Background in structural or bridge estimating
Experience with public infrastructure bids
Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (not required if experience is strong)
