OBJECTIVE: The Health & Safety Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of Health & Safety activities for our Power Plants. The Health & Safety
Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of health and safety strategies, fostering a culture of safety within the company, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements. This role is crucial in ensuring that the highest Health & Safety standards always apply.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures to mitigate risks and ensure a safe working environment.
Stay up-to-date with relevant health and safety regulations and standards. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, as well as industry best practices.
Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and inspections to identify potential hazards and areas for improvement. Develop strategies to minimize risks and prevent accidents/incidents.
Coordinate and conduct safety training programs for employees at all levels. Ensure that employees are aware of safety protocols, emergency procedures, and best practices.
Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near-misses. Identify root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization by fostering awareness, communication, and participation in safety initiatives.
Develop and implement emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid protocols, and crisis management strategies.
Collaborate with Operations and Human Resources to integrate safety measures into daily operations and projects.
Collect, analyze, and report on safety performance metrics. Use data insights to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Act as a liaison with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, community groups, and contractors, to promote transparency and address concerns related to Health & Safety matters.
Prepare reports (including slides for the Board Meetings) related the Health & Safety activities at Power.
PROCUREMENT & LOGISTICS
Oversee all Purchase and Service Order Agreements related to the health & safety activities for power plants.
Work with the Plant Managers and Health & Safety Associates in providing the necessary input and specifications for all
Purchase & Service Order Agreements related to health and safety (PPEs, etc.).
Ensure that health and safety materials are available
all the time.
FINANCE & COMPLIANCE
Assist the VP of Operations (POW) in the preparation of the monthly budget. Develop and manage all budget items, including cost control and expenditure forecasting, related to all aspects of Health & Safety activities for power.
Ensure the budget is in line with the department’s scheduled activities.
ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Support the Plant Managers to develop and staff the HSE Team.
Implement training and development program for staff in line with technical and business needs.
Develop and implement necessary measures to ensure flexible work practices and team building.
Participate actively in the recruitment of HSE staff for the plants.
Assist the Plant Managers to carry out performance appraisals and development plans for the HSE staff.
Contribute to coordinating the rotational schedule (on and off duty) of the HSE staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
BSc in Health & Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biological Science or Biochemistry.
Certification in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Master is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 8+ years of experience in Health and Safety in the Oil & Gas industry.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements for operating plants, including Process Safety Management, OSHA regulations, EPA regulations, EEOC guidelines, and other federal and local requirements.
