The Opportunity – Environmental Health & Safety Specialist
We are seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to join our Environmental Health & Safety team. This role is ideal for a professional who thrives in dynamic environments and is passionate about supporting our clients by managing complex environmental and safety programs and collaborating closely with them. This role offers a salary range of $55,000–$80,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
Position Highlights:
Minimum 5 years of Environmental Health & Safety experience
Construction industry experience required
Strong working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and applicable regulations
Advanced Excel skills (tracking, registers, reporting, data analysis)
Experience supporting and leading client audits, inspections, and compliance reviews
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage compliance documentation and registers
What You’ll Do
Perform monthly environmental audits and inspections related to waste, wastewater, stormwater, and hazardous materials
Conduct regular health and safety walkthroughs and audits on a bi-weekly, weekly, and monthly basis
Complete environmental permitting applications for submission to regulatory agencies
Assess process areas for environmental regulatory applicability and compliance
Develop corrective actions, documentation, and follow-up tracking
Develop and maintain EHS policies, training materials, and written procedures
Prepare risk assessments and safe operating procedures for equipment and chemical use, including PPE hazard assessments
Maintain site equipment and chemical inventory records
Host and participate in monthly safety committee meetings
Support emergency planning and business continuity initiatives in collaboration with Facilities and Risk Management teams
Review new research, automated, and installed equipment, including equipment moves, lifts, installations, and commissioning
Participate in staff and project meetings as required
Provide regular project updates and communicate compliance requirements and safety expectations to stakeholders
Assist with incident investigations and the development and communication of corrective actions
What We’re Looking For
University degree or college diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline
Deep understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Construction Regulation, Industrial Establishments Regulation, and related legislation
In-depth knowledge of construction site safety, including high-risk activities such as electrical work, excavation, fall protection, crane operations, and material handling
Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations in other Canadian provinces is considered an asset, but not required
Familiarity with NFPA, MTO, MECP, and other applicable regulatory bodies
Additional certifications such as OSHA 10/30, HAZWOPER (24- or 40-hour) considered an asset
Valid Class G driver’s license
Strong communicator with a collaborative, problem-solving mindset
Proficient in Excel and EHS documentation systems
Highly organized with excellent attention to detail
Confident working in construction and multi-employer environments
Comfortable leading audits and engaging with clients
Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
