Birla Carbon is currently recruiting for a Health and Safety & Environmental Manager to join our Team. The Health and Safety & Environmental Manager, will be responsible for Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health, safety policies, systems, programs and procedures that provide (a.) safe and healthy working conditions for employees, and (b.) meet company standards and legislative and legal requirements.

Responsibilities:
Develops, implements, and maintains effective safety control and performance measurables, documents, analyses, and reports (that concurrently track, communicate, and confirm our safety commitment) to identify opportunities to improve safety/environmental awareness, compliance requirements, and overall health & safety performance. Assists in the development of and monitors corrective actions through to completion.
Collaboration with all levels of employees in the organization.
Manage all aspects of WSIB claims management, return to work planning and any relevant WSIB improvement programs that would benefit the organization.
Ensures company’s compliance with all applicable legal and corporate safety policies, regulations, and requirements; including all safety reporting, investigation, inspection, training programs, acquisition and the proper use of all required safety and equipment. Liaises with and manages company relationships with health, safety regulatory bodies and auditors.
Develops and maintains employee awareness of (and compliance with) our enhanced safety control commitments through training, communication, involvement, daily inspections, recognition programs, and on-going employee feedback and the facilitation of JH&SC meetings.
Identifies, develops, implements, and maintains programs and initiatives that enhance our safety commitment and responds to safety issues in a timely manner. Develops and administers site specific H&S orientation for new employees, visitors, and contractors.
Conducts required H&S training for employees. Assists in the supervisor continuous improvement process through enhanced safety and training and participation.
Evaluates department compliance with key H&S procedures (confined space entry, line breaking, lock-out / tag-out, emergency action plans, noise and hearing conservation, environmental controls, etc.) and works to strengthen compliance where necessary.
Develops and maintains a self awareness, accountability, and commitment to personal excellence, teamwork, customer satisfaction, ethics, continuous improvement, and accuracy through self-motivation, and personal hands-on involvement.
Requirements:
7 + years’ experience (Oil & Gas or petrochemical manufacturing experience is considered a strong asset)
Professional Safety designation
Expert WSIB claims management experience
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel etc.)
