Position Overview
The Health Information Specialist I (HIS I) is responsible for processing requests in compliance with HIPAA regulations and client-specific requirements for the release of information (ROI). This is a production-based role that requires strong attention to detail, adherence to privacy protocols, and the ability to meet performance metrics related to turnaround time and accuracy.
The role will require the associate to reach out to the patient in the event there are discrepancies with the authorization or questions regarding the authorization. All calls are outbound calls.
Role Responsibilities
• Reviewing, retrieving, and releasing records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and client-specific requirements
• Processing high volumes of record requests while meeting established turnaround time and quality standards
• Ensuring all released information is accurate, complete, and properly authorized
• Adhering to privacy, security, and confidentiality protocols at all times
• Utilizing multiple electronic medical record (EMR) systems and internal applications to locate and process records
• Maintaining detailed documentation and tracking workflow to ensure requests are completed within required timelines
• Meeting or exceeding defined production and accuracy metrics
• Communicating clearly and professionally with internal teams and stakeholders as needed

• Reliability and punctuality in attendance and schedule adherence
• Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues efficiently
• Adaptability to changing processes, client needs, or workload volumes
Preferred Skill Set
• Comfortable working in a remote environment with the ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues
• Ability to multitask and manage multiple requests without sacrificing accuracy
• Proficiency with computer applications, databases, and document management systems
• Strong organizational skills to track and manage workflow
• Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills
🎯 Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Must be 18 years of age or older
Pay ranges for this job title may differ based on location, responsibilities, skills, experience, and other requirements of the role.
The estimated base pay range per hour for this role is:
$15—$18.32 USD
To ensure the safety of patients and staff, many of our clients require post-offer health screenings and proof and/or completion of various vaccinations such as the flu shot, Tdap, COVID-19, etc. Any requests to be exempted from these requirements will be reviewed by Datavant Human Resources and determined on a case-by-case basis.
