Health Information Management Professional (Technician)
(CROSS SITE - CASUAL)
A cross site casual Health Information Management Professional (Technician) position is available at North Wellington Health Care within our Health Information Department. Home site for this position will be the Palmerston & District Hospital.
This position is unionized with OPSEU, Local 226.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary responsibilities include but not limited to:
Assigning diagnostic and procedural codes Inpatient (DAD), ER/Daycare/Oncology (NACRS) patient records using ICD-10-CCI classifications
Electronically abstract demographic and clinical information from the patient’s health record in accordance with Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) guidelines and principles and the Hospital’s policies/procedures
Maintain departmental performance standards for productivity and data quality
Submission of coded data to CIHI
Remain current with changes in coding practices, CIHI guidelines/principles regarding DAD/NARCS coding elements
Process requests related to access and/or disclosure of PHI according to Hospital Privacy Policy & Procedure and other applicable provincial statutes and legislation
Perform data quality activities as required
Act as a resource for internal/external inquiries regarding access/disclosure of PHI
Work within scope of position but willing to accept other assignments and be available to take on additional duties or help out during backlogs/vacation
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an accredited Health Information Management Program
Certified member with the Canadian Health Information Management Association in good standing
A minimum of 2 years recent experience working in a health information management capacity preferred
Experience with Med2020 Abstracting System, Meditech and Microsoft Office Applications an asset
Excellent computer proficiency, statistical aptitude and demonstrated attention to detail and data integrity
Strong working knowledge of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA)
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Demonstrated reliable attendance, punctuality, availability and performance required
Demonstrated adherence to privacy and security compliance
Satisfactory performance and attendance required
Satisfactory Reference Checks required prior to start date
Must provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check
Must complete a Pre-Employment Health Assessment prior to being hired
HOURS:
Day shifts, Monday to Friday, as required
SALARY:
$32.15 to $33.64 per hour
