About the Role: 

The Health, Safety & Wellness Lead plays a key role in fostering a culture of wellbeing, accountability, and collaborative leadership across CELC. This role provides strategic and operational oversight of physical and psychological health and safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements while supporting employees with care and compassion. This role will work collaboratively with our Human Relations, Corporate, and Operations teams. 

Some Accountabilities associated with the role: 

Championing collaborative leadership, compassionate communication, and organizational values rooted in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Leading and continuously improving health and safety programs, policies, and committee processes.

Monitoring and analyzing safety data to inform prevention strategies and organizational learning.

Supporting workplace incident response, documentation, and return-to-work processes, including liaison with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). 

Serving as a health and safety representative and ensuring compliance with Ontario legislation and regulatory standards.

Coordinating organization-wide training and wellness education, including First Aid/CPR and mandatory compliance training.

Building strong relationships across teams to promote safe, healthy, and inclusive work environments.

Facilitate Health and Safety meetings and support ongoing committee work, including follow-up related to incidents and prevention strategies 

Visit CELC programs periodically to support understanding of health and safety regulations and promote compliance through coaching and guidance 

Stay current on changes to Ontario health and safety legislation, standards and best practices, and translate updates into organizational guidance  aligned with ESA, JHSC, OHSA, and CCEYA

Monitor broader employment-related legislative and compliance updates relevant to the role

Skills and Qualifications: 

Certification in an approved Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) training program (Level 1 and Level 2) 

Instructor certification in Standard First Aid and CPR AED 

Mental Health First Aid certification (preferred) 

Familiarity with psychological health and safety standards 

Minimum two years of experience in a Health and Safety leadership role 

Demonstrated experience with WSIB processes and administration 

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook 

Demonstrated project management skills, including planning, prioritization and follow-through 

Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills 

Proven ability to create and improve systems and processes to support efficiency and reporting 

In-depth understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and associated regulations 

Experience developing and delivering training programs in all areas of H&S
