Role Overview

The Head of Social Platforms is a critical senior role responsible for overseeing the daily social content, publishing strategy, and performance of DMG New Media’s brands across all key platforms.

This role is deeply hands-on and executional, with a particular focus on Instagram & TikTok and utilising all of the platform’s available tools. You will lead a team of Channel Managers, each representing a brand or vertical, ensuring channels are consistently posted, culturally fluent, and optimised for growth.

You’ll work closely with editors, creatives, producers, talent and commercial teams to ensure content performs at scale and evolves with audience behaviour. This is a role for someone who has a sharp instinct for social platforms, understands daily publishing mechanics, and knows how to turn data into better content decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Daily Social Publishing & Execution
Own the day-to-day publishing across all DMG New Media social channels. Set clear standards for posting cadence, format usage, captions and optimisation by platform and brand. Ensure channels are consistently active, timely, and aligned to platform best practice.

• Channel Leadership & Team Management
Lead and develop a team of Channel Managers, each responsible for a brand or vertical. Set clear goals, priorities, and accountability for channel performance and growth. Support channel managers with editorial judgment, platform guidance, and decision-making. Create clarity around ownership, escalation, and day-to-day decision-making.

• Performance, Metrics & Optimisation
Own performance KPIs across channels, including follower growth, reach, engagement, watch time, saves and shares. Establish a consistent rhythm of reporting, review and optimisation. Identify underperforming content and channels, and quickly iterate or course correct. Use insights to inform daily publishing, commissioning and longer-term strategy.

• Platform Strategy & Best Practice
Stay close to platform changes, algorithm shifts and emerging features. Translate platform updates into clear, practical guidance for channel teams. Champion new formats and behaviours that unlock growth. Ensure platforms are used intentionally rather than treated as one-size-fits-all.

• Commercial & Cross-Functional
Collaboration Partner with commercial teams to ensure channels are campaign-ready and deliver against client objectives. Support the adaptation of editorial content into branded and commercial formats where required. Work closely with editors, producers, creatives and talent to maximise social performance.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience & Skills 5+ years experience in social media, digital publishing or platform-led content roles.

• Proven track record of managing and growing large social channels, particularly on Instagram & TikTok.

• Deep hands-on understanding of daily social content with a focus on reactive news.

• Strong analytical mindset with confidence using data to drive decisions.

• Experience managing teams and leading day-to-day operations.

• Excellent editorial judgment and understanding of news, entertainment, sport and pop culture.

• Calm, organised and decisive, with the ability to bring structure to fast-moving environments.

Knowledge of both UK and US social culture.

Have developed content playbooks and editorial guidelines.

Have an interest in Ai tools for both creativity and workflow.
