Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology | Staff Specialist – O&G Northern NSW | Permanent Part or Full Time | Up to 40hrs/week
About the Opportunity
A rare and exciting leadership opportunity has emerged for an experienced Obstetrician & Gynaecologist to step into the role of Head of Department at a well-regarded regional hospital within the Northern NSW Local Health District. This is a substantive Staff Specialist position — with Senior Specialist remuneration considered subject to CE approval — offering the chance to shape the future of a dedicated O&G department in one of Australia's most enviable regional settings.
As Head of Department, you will lead and manage a multidisciplinary O&G team, driving best-practice specialist care and ensuring optimal patient outcomes across the Clarence Network. You will play a central role in clinical governance, resource allocation, and inter-departmental collaboration, while championing the training and wellbeing of doctors in your service. Your leadership will directly influence accreditation outcomes and the professional development of the next generation of clinicians.
About the Department
The O&G Department operates within a supportive and collaborative hospital environment committed to delivering contemporary, evidence-based care to its regional community. The team benefits from strong multidisciplinary partnerships and a genuine culture of clinical excellence. You will have access to the resources and backing of a Local Health District that values innovation, education, and quality improvement — and the autonomy to put your own stamp on the department's direction and culture.
About the Location
This role is based in a vibrant regional city nestled in one of New South Wales' most beautiful coastal hinterland regions — a place where breathtaking river landscapes, lush green valleys, and a warm subtropical climate combine to create an exceptional quality of life. The city itself has a rich cultural identity, with a thriving arts scene, heritage architecture, and a strong sense of community that is increasingly attracting professionals and families seeking a meaningful sea-change without sacrificing career ambition. Day-to-day living is genuinely relaxed — think farmers' markets, riverside walks, excellent local dining, and short drives to some of the most stunning beaches and national parks on the east coast. For families, the region offers excellent schooling options, wide open spaces, and the kind of safe, connected community feel that is increasingly rare. And with major centres accessible by road or air, you are never truly far from the city when you need it — but you may find you rarely do.
