Job Description
Join Vivid Machines, a venture-backed company building the intelligence layer for specialty crop production.
From the orchard to the packing line, Vivid’s AI-powered multispectral cameras scan every tree and fruit in real time - helping growers reduce inputs, optimize labor, and produce food more efficiently and sustainably.
Our systems are already operating on farms across multiple continents, supporting the producers behind fruit sold at retailers like Costco, Walmart, and Wegmans.
As we continue to scale globally, we’re looking for a full-time senior finance leader - someone excited to continue to build the financial and operational backbone of the company.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the financial engine of a fast-growing company operating at the intersection of AI, hardware, and agriculture.
If you love building systems, thinking strategically about growth, and getting your hands dirty along the way - keep reading.
The Role
We’re looking for a hands-on Head of Finance & Operations to build and lead our finance function while overseeing key operational areas including HR and internal operations.
You’ll work closely with the CEO and leadership team, partner with department heads across the business, and interact directly with the Board of Directors.
This isn’t a traditional “controller” role. You’ll be a strategic operator responsible for continuing to build the financial infrastructure that enables the company to scale.
This role is ideal for a CPA with startup experience who wants to grow into a CFO seat over the next couple of years.
What You’ll Do
Finance & Strategic Planning
Own company-wide financial planning and analysis, including annual planning, quarterly forecasts, and long-range modelling
Manage cash flow, runway planning, and capital strategy
Build clear KPI dashboards and operational metrics that drive decision-making
Partner with Sales leadership on ARR forecasting, pricing strategy, and deal structure
Support gross margin optimization across hardware and recurring software revenue
Lead monthly close, financial reporting, and performance analysis
Prepare Board and investor reporting materials
Support fundraising, diligence, and investor conversations
Accounting, Compliance & Controls
Oversee accounting operations, including AP/AR, payroll, revenue recognition, and inventory accounting
Ensure compliance with GAAP and Canadian tax regulations
Manage audits and reviews, government funding compliance, and grant reporting (SR&ED, etc.)
Implement scalable financial systems, controls, and reporting processes
Hardware, Assets & Unit Economics
Our business combines hardware deployment with recurring software revenue, which creates unique operational and financial complexity.
Build systems to track and manage physical assets, inventory, and deployed equipment
Develop unit economics models that reflect hardware + software margins
Improve working capital efficiency and cost visibility
Partner with operations and supply chain on COGS tracking and margin improvement
Experience in hardware, manufacturing, leasing models, or asset-heavy businesses is highly valuable.
Operations & HR Oversight
In addition to finance, this role will oversee core operational infrastructure including HR and other operational areas of the business.
Responsibilities include:
Overseeing payroll, benefits, compliance, and HR operations
Supporting headcount planning and compensation strategy
Helping implement lightweight but scalable internal processes
Partnering with leadership on organizational planning and operational discipline
What we’re looking for
Curious, fast-paced and love to learn
CPA required
6–12+ years of finance experience
Experience working in a high-growth startup or scaling company
Strong modeling skills - you’ve built financial models from scratch
Comfortable navigating ambiguity and fast-moving environments
Understand SaaS metrics (ARR, LTV/CAC)
Strong systems thinker who enjoys building infrastructure
Comfortable presenting to executives, investors, and Board members
Based in the Greater Toronto Area (or willing to relocate)
Bonus Points
Experience supporting US and Canadian entities
Experience supporting fundraising processes
Experience with hardware, manufacturing, or asset-heavy businesses
Perks and Benefits:
A competitive compensation package including base, uncapped commission, and stock options
4 weeks of paid vacation, and we’ll encourage you to take it!
Generous benefits with 100% coverage
Ongoing learning and growth opportunities
Why do you want to work at Vivid Machines
This is an opportunity to learn and grow into a CFO role.
You will:
Work directly with the CEO and leadership team
Participate in Board meetings and strategic planning
Shape the financial and operational systems that support global growth
Help guide the company through its next stages of scale

You’ll also join a tight-knit, high-performing team working to transform how the world grows food.
We’re looking for sharp, resilient builders who want to help create something meaningful.
