About the Role

Data is at the core of what we do, it powers both our product and our organisation. We're looking for someone to build out that core to drive our transformation of European healthcare. As Head of Data, you'll shape both the data which is used to enable our very fast commercial expansion as well as our new product lines.

For internal data you'll make sure that data is accessible and actionable in all part of the organisation. You'll build the systems to ensure data is fully self serve with a data team delivering metrics and not dashboards. You'll build LLM-based systems that empower employees to dive into our data, identify trends, and extract the insights they need using natural-language queries.

You'll also build out the stack that gives invaluable insights to care organisations and researchers. Tandem operates at the core of healthcare and with the right systems can extract the insights that power the next generation of health research and product development.

This is a hands-on role. You’ll start by building: designing data models, defining metrics, and setting up pipelines that are reliable, and performant. You’ll be the bridge between data engineering and analytics, someone who understands how to build scalable data systems and what those systems need to deliver to actually enable insight.

What You Will Do

• Define and lead Tandem’s data strategy - architecture, infrastructure, and culture.

• Build robust data pipelines, warehouses, and models that make data accessible and actionable across teams.

• Create a self-serve data platform where teams can explore and understand their data without bottlenecks.

• Collaborate closely with engineers, clinicians, and analysts to identify, define, and standardize key metrics.

• Explore and implement LLM-powered interfaces and tools to make data discovery and insights frictionless.

• Lay the foundations for using Tandem’s aggregated healthcare data for research and public good.

• Build and mentor a small, fast-moving data team.

What You Bring

• Strong software engineering background - you’ve written production code and know how to build scalable systems.

• Deep experience in data engineering and analytics: designing models, building pipelines, defining metrics.

• You care deeply about making data usable, not just stored.

• Great commercial mindset, you understand how you can help the organisation extract actionable insights that make a difference commercial.

• Passion for solving hard problems with simple, elegant systems.

• Experience with modern data infrastructure and cloud environments (e.g., Python, SQL, dbt, Snowflake, Kubernetes).

• Curiosity about LLMs and AI-powered data interfaces - and how they can transform how people interact with information.

• Ability to move fast, get hands dirty, and think strategically at the same time.

Bonus Points

• Experience in healthcare, healthtech, or other regulated data environments.

• Experience building self-serve analytics environments.

• Understanding of privacy, governance, and ethical data use.

• Experience leading small technical teams through early-stage growth.
