Head of Computational Biology/Data Science

We are seeking a motivated Head of Computational Biology to lead the development of cutting-edge data-driven solutions in a fast-paced biotechnology environment. You will play a pivotal role in bridging computational expertise with experimental science, enabling impactful discoveries through advanced analytics and machine learning.

You will shape our data science strategy, define best practices in data architecture, and lead high-impact analyses across diverse datasets—including tabular, imaging, and video-based modalities. You'll be joining a company committed to developing regenerative medicines that deliver life-changing, functional cures for patients living with serious diseases.

Responsibilities

• Lead the evaluation, onboarding, and integration of data management platforms suitable for multimodal scientific and process datasets.

• Collaborate with engineering, scientists or other Aspect team members to build scalable data pipelines for real-time and batch processing of tabular, image, and video data.

• Ensure reproducibility, compliance, and performance of analytical pipelines in R&D and GMP environments.

• Guide the design of relational and non-relational database schemas that support multimodal scientific data.

• Champion the development of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data standards and workflows.

• Implement data governance strategy that ensures good experimental design, interpretation, and reporting standardization.

• Apply advanced ML and statistical modeling techniques to multimodal datasets for tasks such as segmentation, classification, anomaly detection, and process automation.

• Support Engineering to define ML-enabled use-cases, deployment, and monitoring of ML systems.

• Develop dynamic dashboards, reports, and visual storytelling tools that make complex results interpretable and actionable for scientific audiences.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education & Experience: M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field and 8-10+ years of experience in data science within the life sciences industry.

• Knowledge & Understanding: Demonstrated ability to analyze multimodal datasets, including structured tabular data, high-content images, and videos.

• Knowledge & Understanding: Strong command of Python and SQL, statistical analysis tools such as JMP and R, with experience using scientific computing and ML libraries (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV).

• Knowledge & Understanding: Deep familiarity with relational databases, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), data structure, and data version control.

• Problem Solver: Demonstrated ability to identify innovative working solutions to problems with challenging constraints.

• Effective Communicator: You have superior written and verbal communication skills. You are an active listener who can communicate to different audiences in diverse situations.

• Detail Oriented: You have outstanding attention to detail, and experimental and process rigor. You take pride in your work and strive for excellence in the work you do.

The hiring range for this role is $141,000 - $182,000, annually. Our pay scales are based on market data to ensure that compensation is competitive and fair. Offered salaries will be based on a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. For candidates who exceed role requirements, we are open to exploring above-range offers.
