Position Status: 1 continuing, full-time position. This is an existing vacancy.

Reporting to the Parks Technician, the Harbourtown Labourer will be responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the downtown core by performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled labouring work including mowing, trimming, shoveling, and gardening. The individual will demonstrate initiative on a daily basis, understanding the role they play within the community and have excellent customer service skills.
Qualifications:
Grade 12 or equivalent
Must possess and maintain a valid ‘G’ Class Ontario Driver’s License. Must provide a clean driving abstract at time of application,
One (1) year related experience in Grounds Maintenance would be considered an asset.
Working knowledge of procedures, materials and equipment relating to bedding plants, lawn maintenance, landscaping and urban forestry
Experience using and safe operation of lawn equipment including brushing and tree-trimming, grass cutting equipment, and small tools.
Must have good communication, time management and organizational skills.
Friendly helpful demeanor and an interest in parks environment.
Ability to work independently.
Working knowledge of cemetery and/or bereavement industry/legislation would be considered an asset.
Must be able to stand and or walk for long periods of time. Ability and willingness to work in varying climate conditions
Must be physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs. frequently and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communications skills with a proven focus on service delivery.
Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations specifically concerning the requirements for job hazard analysis and the development of and training on safe work procedures.
Ability to get along well with others including supervisors, coworkers, members of the public and other partners in service.
Responsibilities:
Perform a variety of labour tasks in the downtown core, in addition to other work sites as required such as cemetery, parks, open spaces, ball fields, arenas, docks, etc.
Occasional assistance with the leveling of headstones, internments, and burial set up.
Performs all duties in a safe manner and in accordance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act and the City of Kenora’s Health & Safety Policy.
Provide leadership and guidance to seasonal Student Labourers
Other related duties as assigned.
