Group Management Accountant
Chester
Hybrid – minimum of 2 days per week in our offices (flexible working hours between 8:00am and 6:00pm, 37.5 hours per week)
£35,000 – £38,000 DOE

We’re looking for a motivated Group Management Accountant to join our finance team in Chester. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong technical accounting experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and wants to play a key role in supporting and developing a growing finance function.
The successful candidate will support our Finance Manager in delivering accurate and timely financial reporting, while also helping to manage and develop junior members of the finance team. This role would suit someone who enjoys improving processes, building strong working relationships, and contributing to wider business success.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll play a key role in supporting the finance function across the business, with responsibilities including:
Preparation of monthly management accounts for review by the Finance Manager
Completing monthly balance sheet reconciliations
Preparation and posting of journals, including accruals, prepayments and loan postings
Maintaining the fixed asset register and related accounting
Producing financial reporting and variance analysis
Supporting month-end processes and reporting
Preparing VAT returns
Processing payment runs
Managing and overseeing sales and purchase ledger controls
Assisting with cost centre reviews and budgetary controls
Supporting external audits and responding to audit queries
Reviewing and analysing credit control activities
Ensuring the finance function operates efficiently and effectively on a day-to-day basis
Delegating tasks and managing workloads across sales and purchase ledger clerks
Handling internal finance queries and communicating financial information to non-finance stakeholders
Supporting and developing junior team members through regular 1-1s and ongoing coaching
Identifying opportunities to improve processes, reporting, and communication across the finance function
We’re Looking for Someone Who:
Has previous experience within a Management Accounts or Assistant Management Accountant role
Has strong technical accounting capability
Holds an AAT Level 4 qualification (desirable), although candidates qualified by experience will also be considered
Has prior experience working within a medium to large organisation
Has experience supporting businesses through external audit processes
Has strong Excel skills, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, and formulas
Is highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Has excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
Is confident communicating with stakeholders across the business
Has experience allocating work and overseeing operational finance workloads
Is comfortable supporting and managing junior team members
Has a proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and process enhancement
Works well independently and collaboratively within a team
