Groundskeeper I (Contract role)

As a member of the Toronto Blue Jays Florida Operations, the Groundskeeper I role reports to the Manager of Grounds. This position supports the overall maintenance practices for all playing surfaces and outdoor spaces at the Player Development Complex and TD Ballpark. These spaces include natural and synthetic turf playing fields, batting cages, exterior bathrooms, outdoor baseball spaces, landscape beds, and all common areas and ponds around the Player Development Complex and TD Ballpark. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in the preparation, maintenance and restoration of grounds as directed, including all activities or tasks fundamental to baseball field care or general landscape maintenance. 

Set up and break down equipment for batting practice and games. 

Drag and upkeep infields.

Repair and pack pitching mounds and home plate clay.

Operate power equipment such as push mowers, weed whips, stick edgers, and backpack blowers in a responsible manner.

Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruners, and hedge trimmers. 

Ensure use of proper equipment and adhere to safety standards and precautions. 

Clean equipment used at the end of the day and return to the proper storage station.

Gather and remove litter.

Provide support in other stadium and complex activities and special events.

Assist in field preparation for all baseball-related activities to meet requests provided by the Blue Jays and visiting teams' coaching staff.

Minor facility work, such as pressure washing, painting, and light maintenance.

Keep all common areas and landscaping areas in top condition.

All other duties as assigned by grounds leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays. 

Requires lifting of heavy equipment and materials (over 50lbs) and manual labor (raking, shoveling, tarp pulls)

Willing to work outside in a variety of weather conditions for extended periods of time 

Must have strong communication skills, able to verbally communicate at a level that ensures productivity and quality of work 

Ability to be productive in a fast-paced work environment with rapidly changing schedules and environmental conditions.

Strong ability to work well with co-workers, coaches, and players in a team environment.

Willing to work outside in a variety of weather conditions in the Florida climate for extended periods of time.
