Graphic Design Teaching Assistant

Reports To: Dean, School of Architecture and Design
Location: Saad Al Abdullah, Kuwait
The School of Architecture and Design invites applications for a Teaching Assistant position in Graphic Design. The successful candidate will support studio-based teaching in Graphic Design courses, particularly in areas such as illustration, printmaking, visual communication, and digital design.
The Teaching Assistant will assist faculty members in studio instruction, student mentoring, lab supervision, and course preparation. The appointee will contribute to undergraduate education, assist with studio-based learning activities, and support the academic and operational needs of the Graphic Design program within a collaborative and multicultural academic environment.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Curriculum Support
Assist faculty members in undergraduate studio and lecture courses related to Graphic Design, digital media, Illustration, and Printmaking.
Support studio sessions by assisting students with technical guidance in traditional and digital illustration techniques, multimedia, printmaking processes, and visual communication tools.
Help prepare course materials, demonstrations, and digital resources used in studio instruction.
Provide guidance to students during studio work, critiques, and project development.
Assist in monitoring student progress and maintaining studio discipline and safety protocols.
Support faculty in organizing student critiques, presentations, and portfolio reviews.
Help maintain studio facilities, equipment, and materials used in illustration and printmaking labs.
Academic and Studio Support
Assist in managing course-related administrative tasks such as organizing course materials, uploading resources to Canvas, and supporting course logistics.
Provide support to students during lab hours, workshops, or tutoring sessions.
Assist with documenting student work for exhibitions, assessment, or accreditation purposes.
Support faculty in preparing materials for senior projects, exhibitions, or competitions.
Contribute to maintaining an organized and productive studio learning environment.
Service and Institutional Engagement
Support the School of Architecture and Design in student exhibitions, events, competitions, and outreach activities.
Assist with studio setup for workshops, lectures, or special academic events.
Participate in departmental activities and contribute to the academic community.
Promote a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative studio culture.
Qualifications
Required
Academic Credentials
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Visual Communication, Illustration, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and other relevant digital design tools.
Familiarity with digital illustration tools, printmaking processes, and studio-based workflows.
Professional and Academic Skills
Strong understanding of visual communication principles, typography, layout, and illustration techniques.
Ability to assist students with both conceptual design development and technical execution.
Communication Skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Cultural Competency
Ability to work effectively in a multicultural academic environment.
Preferred
Studio Experience
Experience working in illustration, printmaking, or visual communication studios.
Digital and Hybrid Tools
Familiarity with digital fabrication, experimental print processes, or emerging AI-assisted design tools.
Teaching or Tutoring Experience
Previous experience as a teaching assistant, tutor, or studio assistant in a design-related program.
Interdisciplinary Engagement
Interest in collaborating with Interior Design, Architecture, and other design disciplines.
