FLSA STATUS: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime)
NATURE OF WORK
This is a part time, in person position in the Mt. Lebanon Public Information Office which publishes a print and online magazine and a variety of other digital and print content for the Municipality of Mt. Lebanon. The work hours are an average of 29.5 hours per week. Paid time off is provided; health benefits are not provided with this Part Time position. The Graphic Artist works closely with, and takes direction from, a Graphic Design Team Lead. The position requires collaboration and sharing of responsibilities with another designer, as well as regular communication and cooperation with the editorial and advertising staffs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintains consistent branding and high quality of municipal print/online communications
Designs print/online products for public information office, as well as for other departments as needed
Coordinates and/or produces municipal photography and videography
Prepares, corrects, and approves files for printing
Designs print and online advertising
Processes files for magazine website and creates posts for online software
Serves on planning team for municipal special events
Creates support materials for municipal campaigns/special events
Creates infographics/flowcharts to explain complex topics
Keeps abreast of trends in design and emerging software solutions
Communicates with all members of staff in a proactive manner
Attends editorial meetings
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Serves as liaison with printer and IT
Maintains digital archive of photographs, ads and editorial
Maintains photo budget
Performs all other work assigned
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Strong sense of how design/photography relate to editorial content
Experience taking and editing photographs
Comprehensive knowledge of graphic design principles
Knowledge and experience with print, online and social media platforms
Knowledge of web design using WordPress
Ability to prepare and format digital files for press
Expertise with Mac OS, Microsoft 360 and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Acrobat)
Good verbal communication skills
Ability to work in an open “newsroom” environment
Ability to handle multiple projects under deadline pressure
Ability to collaborate and work as part of a team under tight deadlines
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in design or fine arts (or equivalent degree based on coursework)
Prior experience in magazine design, layout and production preferred
Prior design experience with websites and other online communications

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange accurate information.
The essential job duties require working in person, including in person interaction with municipal employees, vendors and residents.
The employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time; move inside the office, and travel to other locations out of the office; reach and operate equipment.
Must possess visual acuity necessary to perform quality graphic design work, including close vision, color vision, and ability to create quality design work using a variety of software.
