Position Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the First Nations Housing and Infrastructure Manager, the Grant and Proposal Writer will support the strategic growth, sustainability, and program development of the AMC Housing Department.  This position is responsible for identifying and pursuing funding opportunities; establishing, building and maintaining strong relationships with federal, provincial, and private sector funders; and finally collaborating closely with the Housing and Infrastructure Team to ensure all proposals align with AMC’s workplan, including pilot projects, Manitoba Housing Gatherings, urban housing strategy development, technical support initiatives, and long-term housing governance goals.

 

The Grant and Proposal Writer will support documentation efforts, reporting requirements, and project coordination to help strengthen First Nations-led housing systems, enhance advocacy efforts, and contribute to improved housing outcomes for First Nations in Manitoba.

Key Responsibilities

Research and identify grants, funding programs, and partnership opportunities that align with AMC’s housing and infrastructure priorities.

Develop high-quality grant applications, project proposals, and supporting documents for submission to government departments (e.g., ISC, CMHC), foundations, and other funding bodies.

Maintain positive working relationships with government departments, funding agencies, academic and industry partners, and First Nations leadership.

Collaborate with the Housing and Infrastructure team to align funding proposals with ongoing work such as pilot project development, Manitoba Housing gatherings, research initiatives, and strategic planning.

Research and identify philanthropic funding opportunities to support AMC’s housing and infrastructure initiatives and proposals.

Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of diverse funding sources and methodologies.

Coordinate and organize fundraising campaigns and engagement strategies

Assist with the development of budgets, timelines, and workplans required for proposal submissions.

Support reporting requirements for funded projects, ensuring timely and accurate submission of progress reports, financial documentation, and final reports.

Track and monitor all funding deadlines, deliverables, and submission schedules.

Contribute to the documentation and analysis of housing data, regional needs assessments, and research emerging from AMC First Nations.

Participate in team meetings, community engagement activities, gatherings, and events as needed.

Support internal filing systems, documentation processes, and record management to ensure efficient workflow within the Housing Department.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Post-secondary education in Public Administration, Communications, Indigenous Studies, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.

Minimum 3 years of experience in grant writing, proposal writing, or funding development—preferably within a First Nations, non-profit, or government environment.

Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to interpret funding criteria and align proposals with organizational goals.

Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to prepare clear, compelling, and accurate written materials.

Knowledge of federal and provincial funding structures, especially those relevant to First Nations housing and infrastructure (e.g., ISC, CMHC).

Ability to build and maintain respectful working relationships with First Nations leadership, government agencies, academic partners, and funding organizations.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Knowledge of First Nations housing issues, socio-economic contexts, and the unique challenges faced by First Nations in Manitoba.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, PDFs, online grant portals, and basic project management tools.

Strong interpersonal, organizational, and conflict resolution skills.

Ability to work independently in determining work methods or priorities.

Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle may be required.

 

Additional Requirements

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of social media platforms.

Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search upon hire.
