AECOM is seeking a Graduate Specialist to join our growing Tunnel Team and excavations practice in Burnaby. This candidate will be supporting design and field execution across TBM and SEM/NATM works, support of excavation (SOE), shafts, and deep excavations. This is a newly created requisition. 
Job Responsibilities:
• Assist with method statements, sequencing and temporary works reviews.
• Help prepare drawings, calculations, and design notes under the guidance of senior engineers; and support construction-phase activities such as RFIs/site clarifications, daily reports, inspection checklists, and as-built documentation.
• Contribute to materials and geotechnical submittal reviews (e.g., shotcrete/concrete mixes, ground improvement, waterproofing)
• Help set up and track instrumentation and monitoring (settlement, convergence, inclinometers), and translate data into clear, actionable summaries aligned with trigger/action thresholds.
• In the field, you will learn how to observe TBM operations (launch/arrival readiness, ring build, annulus grouting) and SEM headings (advance lengths, support categories, shotcrete QA/QC) while reinforcing safety, environmental, and quality expectations on site.
• Collaborate closely with structural, geotechnical, and construction management teams, gaining hands-on exposure to temporary/permanent works, excavation support systems (diaphragm/secant/soldier piles, bracing/anchors), dewatering, and utility protection.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
 Preferred Qualifications:
• We value curiosity, initiative, and disciplined documentation, along with proficiency in core engineering tools (e.g., AutoCAD/Bluebeam, Excel; 3D/BIM and data dashboards are a plus).
• MS in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering is highly preferred.
• Tunneling/Geotechnical/Structural Engineering internship or up to 2+ years of relevant experience is advantageous.
• You are eager to learn from senior mentors, thrive in a fast-paced site and design environment, and are willing to work occasional shifts/weekends as project needs dictate - growing your career on complex, high-impact underground infrastructure.
