Role Purpose:
The Grade Control Technician supports the mine geology team by collecting, logging, sampling, and managing grade control data to ensure accurate ore/waste delineation and optimal ore extraction. The role is critical to maximizing gold recovery, minimizing dilution, and ensuring compliance with the mine plan.
Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties
Grade Control & Sampling
Assist with grade control drilling programs (RC, blast hole, or auger drilling).
Collect, label, and prepare drill chip and blast hole samples.
Conduct geological logging of samples, including lithology, alteration, mineralization, and structure.
Perform routine sample quality control procedures (duplicates, blanks, standards).
Support ore/waste delineation and mark-up of dig lines.
Data Management & Reporting
Accurately record geological and sampling data in field logs and digital databases.
Upload and validate grade control data in geological software (e.g., Surpac, Datamine, Vulcan, or similar).
Assist in preparing daily, weekly, and monthly grade control reports.
Maintain sample tracking and chain-of-custody documentation.
Field Support & Operations
Liaise with mining, drilling, and blasting teams to ensure correct execution of grade control plans.
Assist with pit mapping and face sampling.
Mark ore blocks, boundaries, and stockpiles according to grade control plans.
Monitor mining activities to ensure compliance with geological boundaries and grade control instructions.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
Comply with site safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
Conduct work in accordance with safe work practices and hazard management plans.
Report safety hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly.
Safety & Sustainability Expectations
Maintain a cooperative interest in the health and safety of yourself, your fellow workers and local communities. Wear PPEs at all times if in production environments. Be alert and observe, correct and report unsafe conditions. Follow operating procedures and comply with all regulatory requirements. Ensure that work areas are in compliance with all of GMIN Ventures Guyana Inc. Health and Safety policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Acts in the applicable jurisdiction. Intervene as necessary, to ensure the safety of others in the workplace. Provide safety leadership by always setting a good example.
Qualifications & Skill Requirements -
Minimum qualifications, Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents:
Diploma or Certificate in Geology, Mining, or a related technical field (preferred).
