The Opportunity
Ambipar Response Canada Inc. is currently seeking a GIS Technician / Drafter based in Calgary, Alberta. The successful candidate will support environmental, emergency response, and preparedness projects by developing high-quality technical drawings, maps, and spatial data deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
Utilize AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and QGIS to develop professional site plans, figures, and cross-sectional diagrams for environmental and emergency response projects
Support environmental assessment, remediation, reclamation, and emergency preparedness planning projects
Interpret GIS, GPS, and spatial data to produce accurate mapping and technical deliverables
Assist in calculating site metrics such as distances to receptors, site dimensions, surface areas, and excavation volumes
Support data management, workflow optimization, and process improvement initiatives
Develop templates, SOPs, and mapping standards to support consistency and quality
Participate in peer reviews and ensure adherence to quality assurance programs
Provide technical support to operations and technical teams as required
Required Qualifications & Desired Skills
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, or a related discipline
Demonstrated experience using AutoCAD, ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar GIS software
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation, including evening and weekend coverage, as require
