GIS Analyst II - Job Announcement:
Northwest Management, Inc., a full-service natural resource consulting firm based in Moscow, Idaho, is seeking resumes from motivated individuals experienced in the collection, processing, and analysis of a diverse array of data types, and utilizing basic programming languages (Python/R/SQL). Interpretation and analysis of imagery and remote sensing data, as well as the graphical presentation of geospatial data and statistical comparisons, are at the core of this position. From landscape classifications to road and stream analysis, this position works across a suite of natural resource fields with dynamic metrics to achieve client goals. Being adept with Esri products and open-source platforms to develop, attribute, and test raster or vector products useful to the data pipelines, statistical modeling, and product development related to the company’s LiDAR services as well as the needs of other natural resource service teams is a must. Developing, troubleshooting, and validating, innovative products and python scripts related to GIS, as well as the graphical and statistical presentation of data in deliverables to clients and to the team is the day-to-day. This position will additionally provide training for other staff on the use of geospatial tools and data interpretation to help identify prospective analysts and increase their knowledge of geospatial processing throughout the company. Minimum Qualifications & Skillsets –
A BS degree in Geospatial Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field with applied research in the natural environment, and 2 years’ experience in GIS analytics related to natural resources.
Ability to efficiently utilize Esri software to manipulate geospatial information, display analysis results, and provide clients with high-quality products.
Ability to manipulate, map, and model aspects of geospatial data sets. Ability to create and statistically interpret complex data and data models.
Applied skills in one or more programming languages (Python, R, etc.)
Demonstrated experience with geospatial datasets, data structures, and statistical modeling.
Demonstrated ability to work with Esri based visual tools including Dashboards, Experience Builder, Story Maps, etc.
Independently recognize and resolve methodological and/or conceptual errors within workflows.
Write functional and
detailed design documentation, program specifications, test plans, and other system documentation related to the functions of this position.
Create training tools/materials and participate in training other company staff in GIS and geospatial processing, as requested.
Participate as a team member to plan, design, develop, test, and continually improve the quality and efficiency of products.
Ability to design, develop, test, document, apply, and explain statistical/mathematical methods to extract actionable information from large, complex data sets that include 3D point clouds.
The ability to apply standard computer programs, including Microsoft Office products, ArcGIS or QGIS, NetSuite, G-Suite, and video conferencing platforms is also required.
Additional Desirable Qualifications –
Master of Science or Doctoral degree in Remote Sensing, Statistics, Engineering, Natural Resources.
Experience with SQL/PostgreSQL database hosting, queries, and management.
Expertise with LiDAR technologies either aerial or terrestrial, and/or drone data acquisition.
Knowledge of forestry practices, growth modeling, and biometrics.
Experience with natural resource management practices and real-world applications.
