Position Description
We are looking for a young and dynamic theater director from the German-speaking countries to direct/ lead our annual co-curricular theater project. This project should allow non-native amateur actors (who may or may not have experience on the stage) to fully participate in the production and performance of a play in German (no translated plays) and contribute to the overall mission and life of Middlebury’s German School by bringing some of the German countries’ theater culture to our campus while adhering to our ethos of inclusivity, intercultural engagement, and open-mindedness. The project runs over the course of our summer session with a public performance at the end of our time together. Limited support (set building/ props, costumes) is available, but this is a low-budget project within our academic overall framework.—We expect our colleague to be fully immersed in the School’s life—live on campus, dine with the School and participate in other co-curricular and cultural events. We especially invite young directors from diverse backgrounds to apply.
Requirements:
Qualifications
At least three years of experience in directing for the (professional) stage, formal training in directing preferred. Experience with diverse groups of amateur actors, experience with non-native speakers of all proficiency levels a plus. Basic English proficiency required, but all work in summer will be conducted in German.
