You love math, logic, order, and seeing a project takes shape in a survey plan. You work with survey equipment and software, but it is the vectors and attributes that really draw you in.  You provide the data, the essential starting point for many exciting new projects.

Binnie is looking for a detailed-oriented Geospatial Technician to join our Engineering Survey Division, to be based out in Burnaby location.  

As part of our Geomatics Group, you will support the collection, processing, and management of various types of spatial data (UAV Mapping/LiDAR, SLAM, Terrestrial Scanning, Mobile LiDAR, etc.) for survey, mapping and engineering projects with some complexity.

This role may involve both field and office responsibilities, including operation of survey instruments, UAVs, terrestrial scanners and mobile mapping systems. Also, performing data processing, quality control, and GIS integration.

This position is a full-time office-based position and offers opportunity to gain valuable work experience and knowledge.

YOUR ROLE:

Review project requirements with Project Manager to ensure a clear understanding of scope, deliverables, and spatial data needs

Plan and execute geospatial data and survey collection activities, including GNSS/GPS surveys, UAV/drone flights, terrestrial scanning, and total station operations (record accurate field notes, photos, coordinates, and descriptions)

Process and review collected field data for accuracy and completeness, making minor adjustments as needed.

Conduct quality checks on raw files to ensure completion, accuracy and requirements are met

Conduct field checks to support data quality assurance and report inconsistencies or missing data to manage

Follow Project Manager’s instructions to ensure data accuracy and timely delivery

Operate GNSS, total stations, UAVs, terrestrial scanners, and other geospatial equipment with proficiency and according to project requirements and scope of work

Monitor survey performance on assigned projects, and report on any potential cost overrun, extra work, and scope changes required to the Manager. 

Work closely with Project Managers to deliver the project on schedule

Review work methods and procedures and make recommendations to Manager for improvements

WHAT YOU BRING:

Technical diploma in Geomatics / Geospatial / Remote Sensing (or related field)

Transport Canada drone Pilot Certificate – Advanced Operations

Minimum 3-5+ years of experience in surveying, mapping, or geospatial data processing

Experience with processing and capturing geospatial data

Strong working knowledge of UAV, terrestrial scanning, practices, and equipment

Ability to plan and execute UAV and Scan projects in the field

Ability to process point cloud data and execute deliverables

Strong working knowledge of geospatial point cloud data processing software

Skilled in the establishment of control networks using GNSS and conventional methods

Working knowledge of Civil 3D and Trimble Business Centre

Ability to deliver high quality accurate, error-free work

Ability to use hand and power tools efficiently and safely

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Level 1 Complex Operations Drone License preferred

The salary for this position is commensurate with experience; the salary range for this position is $66,690 - $96,600 annually. The final salary for this role may vary based on several factors, including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. Please note that the salary range provided in this job posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
