Who We Are

The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits.

Who You Are

Mikisew Awasis Kisiwatsowin Society (MAKS) is seeking a Generalist Caseworker to provide a critical role in supporting children and families by assessing needs, providing services, and ensuring the safety and well-being of children. This role will work closely with families, community resources, and other service providers to promote healthy family environments, prevent child abuse, and foster family stability. The role involves conducting assessments, developing care plans, providing advocacy, and facilitating family reunification or appropriate alternatives for children in need of protection or services.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of children and families to determine needs, risks, and services required.

Provide all delegated duties from intake through to permanency for all services under the Child, Youth and Enhancement Act

Develop, implement, and monitor individualized case plans that address the specific needs and goals of children and families.

Make referrals to support services, community resources and appropriate services providers

Maintain accurate and timely case files and documentation in accordance with agency policies and provincial legislation.

Participate in legal proceedings as necessary, providing testimony in court hearings, assisting with the development of legal plans, and collaborating with attorneys and law enforcement.

Work to facilitate the reunification of children with their families when safe and appropriate. If reunification is not possible, assist in the development of permanency plans, including foster care or kinship.

Maintain professional boundaries and respect the confidentiality and privacy of families

Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the agencies objectives.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Social Work or related degree with a minimum 2 years' experience in Child Intervention.

Social Work Diploma or related diploma with a minimum of 3 years of related experience.

Currently delegated or the ability to be delegated in the province of Alberta

Currently registered or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with families, staff, and external stakeholders effectively.

Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.

Organized with the ability to prioritize and multi-task

Experience working knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset.

Ability to speak Dene or Cree is an asset

 

Requirements:

Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector

Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license with a Satisfactory 5-year Drivers Abstract.

Child Intervention Record Check

Willingness and ability to travel as required.

Willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends when required.

Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
