Job Summary
The General Service Worker performs assigned service functions such as yard cleanup and maintenance contracts with Seniors Wellness BET program, routine cleaning and minor maintenance of buildings, grounds, vehicles and equipment for OneSky Community Resources. Other short labor contracts such as putting together furniture or toys for other programs at OneSky.
According to the area of function, the General Service Worker is trained, supported and supervised by regular OneSky personnel.
General Service Worker - All Service Functions Areas (see NOTE below)
A. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Represents OneSky Community Resources in a professional and courteous manner and works effectively to build solutions and solve problems.
Practices and maintains all health and safety policies, standards, regulations and procedures relevant to the position.
Reports to supervise personnel on any observed potential health, safety, security and fire prevention concerns.
Practice all emergency drills successfully.
Keep the workspace safe, organized, and tidy.
Prepares and submits personal time sheets.
Participates in required training; develops self to meet current and future needs.
Assists with training and support for other GSW’s, as assigned.
Practices effective conflict resolution.
Brings all repair and maintenance concerns to supervising personnel. Brings general concerns / problems to supervising personnel.
Performs and assists with program maintenance duties such as cleaning, inventory, and equipment maintenance, as required.
Completes / maintains various related records such as maintenance logs, charts, key registers and other records; assists in taking inventory and maintaining equipment and supplies.
Performs other related duties as required.
General Service Worker - Maintenance Function (see NOTE below)
B. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides manual labor assistance on various tasks and assignments.
As assigned, cleans, washes and disinfects building areas such as walls, windows, ceilings, floor, carpet, air vents, furniture, equipment, supplies, toys, blinds, washrooms by methods such as dusting, polishing, vacuuming, sweeping, wet mopping, shampooing, waxing, buffing, using various manual and power cleaning equipment.
Collects and disposes refuse and maintains clean refuse areas; performs spot clean-ups, as assigned. As assigned, ensures the identification and/or safe disposal of potentially hazardous waste.
Maintains and cleans parking lots, porches, decks, stairs and sidewalks using hand and powered brooms, rakes, shovels, hoses and other equipment to remove dirt, leaves, snow and other refuse; performs minor gardening tasks such as lawn mowing, trimming, weeding, watering, as assigned.
Cleans customer vehicles and equipment, as assigned.
Assists with safe movement and storage of furniture, supplies, vehicles, and equipment.
Secures buildings, vehicles, equipment by arming alarms, locking doors and windows and storing keys as required.
Ensures equipment and tools are stored safely and securely. Report on any observed non-routine maintenance needs, to the supervising personnel.
C. Qualifications
1. Education and Knowledge
Minimum two years of high school, or other post-secondary education / training preferred.
Candidates must have CLBC service hours with OneSky Inclusion program.
2. Training and Experience
One (1) month of recent related experience.
Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Good customer and public interaction skills.
Good oral communication skills.
Computer literacy is an asset.
