Who we Are:
Canadian Mental Health Association Durham is an integrated community mental health and primary care hub that has been providing mental health services to Durham Region for over 60 years.
During that time, it has evolved to provide a broad range of services to individuals and their families experiencing mental health challenges, from information and education to case management, psychosocial rehabilitation, housing and primary healthcare. These services are provided through inter-professional teams focused on providing clinically based services that, in addition to dealing with client mental health issues, address social determinants of health using the recovery model.
Overview of the Role:
Reporting to the Facilities Lead, this individual will have responsibility of providing general custodial and maintenance support primarily to the HART Hub facility. This includes ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the building through routine custodial work, repairs, and general upkeep, with cleanliness being their focus. They will also play a role in supporting building operations including basic maintenance of building systems and equipment, and inventory management. They will also provide expertise in facility best practices, safe work procedures, and efficient problem-solving related to building maintenance and operations.
Location: HART Hub employees may begin work at 60 Bond St. West, and will move to the designated HART Hub location in Oshawa at a later date.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Primarily Responsible for general custodial duties for the Hart Hub
Primarily Responsible for minor maintenance and repairs of the Hart Hub
Minor electrical, plumbing and HVAC
Small furniture moves
General repairs including painting, carpet cleaning, spill clean-up etc.
Ensures all building access points are secure, clear and accessible including snow removal, salting, and general cleaning.
Responsible for managing inventory of supplies related to the role, such as tools and cleaning supplies; may occasionally be provided with resources to purchase items as needed
May provide back up support for other Facilities General Custodial/Maintenance Worker(s) at other CMHA Durham locations
Client Safety
Adhere to CMHA Durham client safety programs including program policies as well as infection control and prevention procedures. In partnership with clients, family members, and fellow staff, maintain open lines of communication to assist the organization in identifying and achieving quality outcomes for client safety. Report client safety incidents and suggested improvements to manager or delegate.
Other Duties as Assigned
Attend, participate in team meetings and all employee meetings
Participate in organizational quality improvement activities, e.g. accreditation projects, committee work, special events
Participate in quality improvement activities at the team/program level
Participate in external committees as required

Minimizes risks adhering to CMHA Durham Policies and Procedures identifying, assessing, evaluating and controlling risks ensuring well-being of employees and clients.
Qualifications:
Minimum of three years custodial/maintenance experience and/or equivalent combination of education, experience and/or lived/life experiences is required.
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge of heating, cooling and ventilation systems
Ability to perform minor repairs in plumbing, electrical and general building maintenance
Knowledge of building renovation
Ability to work independently
Experience and knowledge of life safety systems
Ability to adapt quickly to change and deal with sudden urgent issues
Good communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (22 Kg)
Cell phone and steel toed boots
Valid Ontario Driver’s license, access to a dependable vehicle in safe working order and appropriate insurance coverage
Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), as well as the internet
Able to integrate CMHA Durham’s philosophy of being a “welcoming organization” into everyday practice.
General knowledge of the mental health environment in Ontario.
Ability to adapt to change and navigate through ambiguous situations
Project management skills
Knowledge of Indigenous communities and cultural practices (preferred).
Intermediate fluency in French considered an asset
Work outside of normal business hours as required, in compliance with the Disconnect from Work policy.
Working Conditions:
Exposure to psychiatric behaviors that may be considered offensive (abusive/irate clients), deadlines, multiple demands, distractions/Interruptions
Exposure to hazards including, but not limited to:
Muscle strain from lifting
Noise
Bodily fluids in clinic areas and client rooms
Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout the facility during the course of the workday
