The Gardening Crew Leader must be thoroughly familiar with and able to perform all aspects of fine gardening to include the procurement of plants, planning work, plant layouts, installing annuals and perennials, deadheading plants, scheduling, upselling customers, customer service, and training. The Gardening Crew Leader directly oversees a crew of 2 Gardening Laborers.
Skill Set & Educational Requirements:
Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
Minimum of five years of experience in fine gardening
Extensive knowledge of horticulture methods, materials, and landscaping
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade
Ability to perform grounds maintenance tasks
Ability to lead and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
Knowledge of landscape maintenance methods, techniques, and equipment
Physical ability to perform the necessary functions of the job including working outdoors in all types of weather conditions as needed
Able to lift up to 35 lbs without assistance, dig and work in a kneeling position for extended periods of time
CPR and First Aid certified
Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
Duties/Responsibilities:
Plants, transplants, waters, prunes, and weeds flower beds and plant areas.
Oversees the work of two to three employees in supporting roles, including assigning workload and monitoring employee performance.
Maintains flowers, bushes, trees, and shrubs.
Recognizes disease and insect problems of woody and herbaceous plants and recommends or performs proper pest control operations.
Plants and propagates bedding plants.
Operates motor vehicles to transport materials and equipment.
Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Ensures that company production standards are met.
Implements detailed landscape plans.
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
