Position Overview
The Biome is currently looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team as a Special Education Teacher. This position is instrumental in providing instruction and intervention to learners and plays a key role within the Student Success Team. The SPED teacher spends time in classrooms alongside students with disabilities, which includes planning, adapting, and supporting lessons to meet student needs. This teacher also works with general education teachers, specialists, administrators, and parents/guardians to develop, implement, and assess IEPs. This teacher must be comfortable using and navigating technology, including SpedTrack, Clever, and Google Classroom.
Key Responsibilities
Assessing students’ skills and determining their educational needs
Adapting general education lessons to meet individual student needs
Assisting in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Planning activities that are differentiated by student
Supporting students in the classroom in small group or one-on-one settings
Implementing IEPs, assessing student performance, and tracking student progress
Updating IEPs throughout the school year
Completing progress reports on implemented goals
Discussing student progress with parents/guardians, other teachers, and the Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS)
Mentoring and supporting teacher assistants who work with students with disabilities
Participation in regular MTSS collaborative team meetings
Participation in parent-teacher conferences
Proctoring of assessments (formal/informal) for students served under tiered intervention
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred)
Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate in Special Education Mild/Moderate: Cross Categorical (K-12)
Familiarity with classroom management techniques and strategies for promoting positive student behavior
A growth mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement and professional development
Passion for inspiring and supporting others in their teaching journey and bringing joy to the learning process
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, dynamic school environment
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Ability to work in a school environment with students and staff
Frequent use of computer systems, phones, and other office equipment
Occasional lifting of supplies or materials (up to 25 lbs)
Ability to move between classrooms, the Anchor Room, and various school areas
