Position Description:
The Biome is seeking a motivated and dynamic Mind and Movement teacher to support and help develop the physical education and mindfulness achievement of learners in kindergarten through fifth grade. The Mind and Movement Teacher will plan and implement lessons that align to the Missouri Learning Standards, provide instruction in leadership, and incorporate the tenets of Growth Mindset. Weighing each learners’ physical and mental health needs and abilities, this teacher will engage students in a range of activities that motivate them to exercise their bodies and minds. Working in collaboration with the Adaptive Thinking and Music teachers, the specialists’ team, which includes the Mind and Movement teacher, will ensure that students are engaging in experiences that promote their understanding of, access to, and interest in the arts and personal wellness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Create and teach a balanced physical education and mindfulness curriculum that differentiates instruction and activities by grade level
Expose students to experiences that encourage fair play, foster strategic game play, promote the use and understanding of verbal and non-verbal cues, and empower leadership
Expose students to information and skills that promote healthy living
Work in partnership with students to create a culture of respect and appreciation
Establish a safe and nurturing learning environment
Set appropriate expectations and effectively manage the classroom
Clearly communicate individual student progress to families, classroom teachers, and the school principal
Participate in ongoing professional development as well as work individually and/or collaboratively to stay abreast of best practices in physical education
Complete all job-related responsibilities in a timely and professional manner
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)
• Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate in Physical Education
• Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
• Self-confident and resilient
• Consistent and reliable
• Data-driven and results-oriented
