Position Description
Job Title: Frontline Supervisor
Supervisor Information: The Director of Operations and the Operations Manager will serve as the co-supervisors for a staff member in this position.
Job Purpose:
The Frontline Supervisor encourages and supports the DSP team in maintaining high performance and standards while overseeing daily operations, including the intentional activity schedule and community access. This role provides coaching and guidance to DSPs, fosters an inclusive and respectful environment, and ensures effective communication and consistent implementation of agency values.
The Frontline Supervisor also maintains an active role as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), stepping in throughout the day to ensure continuity of support and to model best practices. By providing hands-on, high-quality support, the Frontline Supervisor demonstrates professionalism, empathy, and a commitment to active support, dignity of risk, and the power of choice; always keeping the well-being and growth of the people we support and staff members at the center of decision-making.
The person in this role leads by example, acting as a mentor, coach, and trusted resource for the DSP team and those supported at the agency. They are authorized to provide constructive feedback and on-the-spot redirection, supporting both people and processes to ensure a person-centered approach to every interaction.
Core Work Schedule:
Full-time: Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM – 4:30 PM (40 hours/week).
Additional hours, when needed, will be discussed and mutually agreed upon with the Director of Operations.
General Expectations:
This is a non-exempt position and the staff in this position is eligible for overtime.
Serve as a working supervisor with authority to provide constructive feedback to DSP staff members.
Work in partnership with the Operations Manager to maintain seamless daily operations and address needs as they arise.
Model ethical behavior, emotional intelligence, and person-first communication at all times.
Minimize staff-to-staff conversations during support hours to maintain focus on the people we support.
Be visible, engaged, and responsive throughout the day—constantly moving, checking in, and offering support where needed.
Serve as a key trainer and mentor to new staff, supporting their orientation, skill development, and confidence.
Position Specific Duties:
Encouraging and Supporting People with Disabilities:
Mentor, model and encourage the tasks outlined in the DSP job description.
Welcome and assist the people supported at GFGSC as they arrive at the agency, each day.
Provide direct care to people with disabilities in accordance with GFGSC’s DSP role.
Be a positive example in day-to-day responsibilities, such as actively participating in cleaning efforts throughout the building while encouraging the DSP team to take pride in their work.
Ability to provide constructive feedback with respect and professionalism, understanding that each staff member has unique strengths, learning styles, and areas for growth, and that all staff deserve fairness and support.
Assist people we support with routine building tasks (e.g., filling humidifiers, supply checks on Thursdays, plugging in agency devices by 3:45 PM).
Encourage and support staff to enable people with disabilities to access their communities.
Oversee and encourage the delivery of intentional activities at GFGSC, ensuring activities take place as planned and acting as backup cohost when unexpected scheduling conflicts occur.
Supporting and Leading the DSP Team:
Support staff daily during the morning planning meeting (7:45–8:00 AM).
Take initiative to problem-solve scheduling or staffing issues respectfully and constructively with the staffing team and the people that we support.
In the absence of both the Operations Manager and Director of Operations, arrive at 7:30 AM to lead the morning meeting alongside the Program Specialist Director (with adjusted compensation).
In the absence of both the Operations Manager and the Director of Operations ensure that all relevant information is relayed to the appropriate administrative staff members the following business day.
Promote respectful, team-centered communication and resolve issues promptly, keeping the people we support at the center of all decisions.
Provide on-the-spot feedback in a constructive, kind, empathetic manner, using every moment as a teaching opportunity.
Mentor DSPs in active support, relationship-building, and documentation best practices.
Reinforce GFGSC’s Mission, Confidentiality Policy, and the “Contract of Excellence.”
Create an environment where staff feel supported, heard, and empowered to grow professionally.
Model open, honest communication that builds trust and confidence.
Participate in CQL processes, as requested.
Participate in investigations regarding Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation and maltreatment as requested.
General Duties:
Implement the overall goals and mission of GFGSC.
Maintain confidentiality and privacy of both the people we support and fellow staff members.
Provide and maintain fun and safety standards both in the building and in the community.
Report all suspected incidences of possible Abuse, Neglect and/or Exploitation to the Director of Operations.
Notify your supervisor when leaving the building and complete the sign-out sheet (not expected for daily lunch breaks).
Help to maintain a clean, safe, and presentable work site.
Treat all people with equality, dignity and respect.
Care for and properly maintain devices (phones/computers) provided by GFGSC, ensuring security and updates.
Keep HIPAA-sensitive documents in a locked space when not in use.
Participate in CQL processes, as requested.
Participate in investigations regarding Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation and maltreatment as requested.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Completion of Development Disabilities Level III Certification.
Maintenance of all job requirements of a Direct Support Professional at GFGSC.
Preferred Experience Requirements:
3 or more years’ experience as a Direct Support Professional.
2 or more years’ experience as a Direct Support Professional at GFGSC.

Job Requirements:

Completion of drug screen upon hire.
Up-to-date driver’s license.
Clear driving record.
Training Requirements to Maintain the Position:
Complete all required annual training as specified by the North Dakota Department of Developmental Disabilities.
