Job Description
Job Title: Front Office Technology Lead
Location: London
Reporting Line: Chief Technology Officer
Level for Referral Policy: Mid
Background
Trading Labs is a specialist team of financial technologists and developers working in close partnership with Marble Bar. Together, we design, build, and evolve a technology-led, data-driven ecosystem that underpins every core component of the investment process. The platform empowers individual Portfolio Managers while equipping the management team with robust tools for oversight, risk management, and capital allocation.
Trading Labs’ DNA is rooted in serving a UK-based asset manager that supports independent hedge fund managers in building their investment firms through an integrated data and technology platform spanning the full investment lifecycle—from idea generation and trade execution through to risk management and portfolio construction.
Role
We are seeking a Front Office Technology Lead with strong product, delivery management, and technical/coding skills to play a pivotal role in transforming a semi-systematic product and strategy vision into fully deployed, production ready solution and managing the delivery of analysts and developers supporting the strategy.
This is a hands-on role sitting at the intersection of technology, investment, and product delivery. You will work closely with the portfolio manager, analysts, quants, developers, and other stakeholders to translate high level strategy requirements into clear technical specifications, manage agile delivery, and guide products from concept through to live deployment.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical understanding with excellent delivery discipline, enabling them to manage development teams, coordinate stakeholders, and create a clear roadmap from the current state to a fully deployed strategy or product.
Key Responsibilities
Product & Strategy Delivery
Partner with investment and research team to translate product or strategy vision into clear, actionable requirements.
Own and maintain the delivery roadmap, defining milestones from prototype through to full production deployment.
Ensure alignment between business objectives, technical implementation, and delivery timelines.
Technical Business Analysis
Elicit, document, and prioritise functional and non‑functional requirements.
Produce clear specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria suitable for technical implementation.
Act as a bridge between investment stakeholders and developers, ensuring shared understanding and pragmatic solutions.
Agile Delivery & Scrum Mastery
Act as Scrum Master for one or more development teams, running sprint planning, stand‑ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
Promote agile best practices and continuous improvement across the delivery process.
Remove delivery blockers and manage dependencies across teams and stakeholders.
Technical Oversight & Coding
Contribute hands‑on code where appropriate (primarily Python and/or C#), supporting prototyping, testing, or production work.
Review technical designs and implementations to ensure they are robust, scalable, and aligned with product goals.
Work closely with developers to ensure high technical standards and efficient delivery.
Stakeholder & Team Management
Manage and coordinate internal developers and external vendors where required.
Communicate progress, risks, and trade‑offs clearly to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Support prioritisation decisions with a pragmatic, delivery‑focused mindset.
The Candidate
Technical & Analytical Skills
Strong programming skills in Python and C# (both needed)
Solid understanding of software engineering principles and modern development practices.
Ability to assess technical trade‑offs and guide pragmatic implementation decisions.
Investment & Domain Knowledge
Experience working with equities, preferably in a systematic or quantitative environment.
Good understanding of systematic and fundamental investment concepts.
Exposure to front‑office and investment technology platforms is highly desirable.
Delivery & Agile Experience
Proven experience as a technology lead in an agile environment.
Strong experience with agile methodologies, backlog management, and roadmap planning.
Ability to manage delivery across multiple workstreams and stakeholders.
Personal Attributes
Strong problem‑solver with the ability to turn complex ideas into practical technical solutions.
Technically confident and comfortable engaging deeply with developers.
Pragmatic, delivery‑focused, and outcome‑oriented.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and investment teams.
Judgement, Signal Design & Stakeholder Engagement
Demonstrates strong judgement in ambiguous, fast-moving investment environments, balancing speed, robustness, and impact over theoretical perfection
Understands what makes an investment signal truly actionable (e.g. decay, crowding, regime sensitivity, implementation friction)
Able to translate high-level PM intuition and imperfect research into clear, scalable system logic
Acts as a constructive challenger to investment stakeholders when appropriate
Takes ownership of the long-term health and evolution of the signal ecosystem
Operates credibly with senior PMs through clarity, discretion, and intellectual honesty
The role is situated in London and there is an expectation to be in the office 5 days per week, 8am to 5:30pm.
