POSITION SUMMARY

Working closely with the global design team, the Freelance Layout Designer will use existing Adobe InDesign templates to produce professional-grade PDF reports that may be as short as 2 pages or as long as 50+ pages.  

Location: Remote

Reports to: Senior Design Associate 

Contract: through end of 2026, with possibility of renewal  

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate with design team members to format and design report content in Adobe InDesign  

Work within the confines of established templates, unless instructed otherwise 

Adhere to best practices related to image handling, color management, and delivery of design file

Occasionally utilize Adobe Illustrator to make minor adjustments to graphics within reports  

Conduct thorough review of all deliverables to ensure accuracy, optimal legibility, and adherence to brand guidelines  

Meet deadlines which are sometimes tight but always discussed and agreed upon in advance 

Address requests for edits from the design and/or project teams 

COMPETENCIES & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

Essential

Proven experience in layout design, including 20+ page documents  

Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign, including utilizing master pages, typographic styles, and interactive features 

Efficiency and workflow optimization skills in InDesign 

Basic to intermediate proficiency in Adobe Illustrator 

Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word 

Clear and timely communication 

A keen eye for detail, including when working under the pressure of a tight deadline 

Desirable

Proficiency with GREP Styles, Data Merge, Scripting and other automation techniques in Adobe InDesign 

Experience developing complex custom InDesign templates

This is a freelance position that is compensated by the hour on a project-to-project basis. Workload will generally be heavier during our busy season of September – November, and lighter during other months of the year.
